When questioned in relation to the seemingly improved performance, trainer B Laming advised that in the geldings first start he was slow to begin and raced greenly throughout the event. Mr Laming added that the gelding had worked well subsequent to that run and that with the benefit of race experience, he had expected an improved performance and further was suited stepping up in distance in today’s event.

Near the 100m, momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed at heels. Jockey B Thornton advised that the filly was able to obtain a forward position in accordance with its normal racing pattern and travelled comfortably throughout the event. He added that the filly when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. A swab sample was taken.
