When asked to explain tactics in the early stages of the event when it appeared he would obtain the lead easily on MONT ROYAL before electing to restrain, apprentice S Tomlinson stated instructions were to obtain cover if possible, however when SIGNAL ROW commenced to over-race to his inside he elected to restrain for a short distance before soon after near the 1200 meters allowing MONT ROYAL to stride forward to the position outside the leader.
