Rider H Richardson indicated it was not her intention to lead, however after being forced wider on the track approaching the 800m and with a lack of pace to the inside, she allowed SWEET VENOM to stride forward and lead the event. Ms Richardson added going forward it would be the intention of the stable to ride the horse in a similar manner.

Shifted in and brushed the running rail near the 800m. When questioned regarding tactics today, specifically her decision to restrain in the middle stages, M Castle stated instructions were to be positive out of the barriers however after being pressured by runners to the outside she elected to restrain and obtain cover which resulted in WALSHIE racing in a midfield position on the rails. M Castle, rider of WALSHIE, was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m, two more than permitted.
