Had some difficulty obtaining clear running for a short distance approaching the 300m. Laid out over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, trainer J Johnston stated that at the horses recent starts over shorter distances the gelding has been unable to muster early speed, however has finished its races off strongly. Mr Johnston indicated with the step up in distance to 1800m today, the gelding was able to settle in a more forward position and he had expected a forward showing.

Stewards interviewed jockey T Brooker regarding the pace that was set in the early and middle stages. Jockey Brooker stated that she had been instructed to lead and had anticipated not obtaining the lead as easily as she did. She further added that the filly did over race to a point approaching the 1300m, however she was able to have the horse travel in the middle stages and felt that the filly was entitled to finish the race off better than it did.
