Accessing Information
The Right to Information Act 2009 (QLD) and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (QLD) provide access to information held by state government departments and agencies across all sectors of the community, and provide appropriate protection for individuals' privacy and personal information.
Racing Queensland is committed to providing access to information it holds to members of the public in a timely and cost effective manner whilst ensuring that disclosure of the information would not, on balance, be contrary to the public interest.
The Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld):
- is the primary legislation enabling public access to documents held by government agencies;
- requires an agency to publish a publication scheme on its website which may include an online disclosure log of documents that have been released in response to a Right to Information application.
The Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld):
- establishes strict privacy principles (QPP’S) that control how government agencies collect, store, use and disclose personal information;
- gives the public a right to apply to access and amend their own personal information;
- includes a mandatory notification of data breach scheme.
Accessing Information
Before making a Right to Information (RTI) application, you can check to see if the information is already available from, or can be obtained by:
- RQ’s website – RQ publishes much of the information related to its function on its website, including race information and data, the racing calendar, policies and procedures;
- RQ’s Disclosure Log – You may be able to access information that has already been released under an RTI application;
- RQ’s Publication Scheme – This scheme contains information about Racing Queensland, our services, finances, priorities, decisions, policies, lists and registers;
- Administrative Access – If the information is already publicly available, contains non-sensitive information, or is information routinely disclosed by RQ, you may be able to obtain the information via administrative access
We'll help determine if the information is accessible through an administrative release process, or we'll advise if you need to make an RTI request to access it. Please enquire to the below:
