ALEXANDRA KELLY

Queensland Off-The-Track proudly introduces Alexandra Kelly as a QOTT Acknowledged Retrainer.

Growing up in rural Queensland with a horsey family and a Veterinarian father, Alexandra has been riding her whole life. Alexandra has competed successfully in English and Western disciplines since childhood and has built her career around horses, including stints working overseas instructing at Al Shaqab in Al Raayan, Qatar and managing a barn for Southlands Heritage Farm in Vancouver, Canada.

Alexandra has been running her successful equine business ‘Alex Kelly Horsemanship’ since 2011, offering horsemanship clinics and professional training services for horses. A qualified Veterinary Nurse, Alexandra also works part-time at her father’s veterinary clinic, Wooroolin Veterinary Services in the South Burnett region.

Alexandra prides herself on providing a smooth transition for retired racehorses into their lives post-racing, with a strong focus on identifying a horse’s natural strengths and ultimately finding them a great long-term home. With a background as a Veterinary Nurse and the added benefit of having a Veterinarian father, Alexandra has a special interest in rehabilitating injuries and balancing physical and mental wellness.

“I aim to create versatile horses with good brains that you may find competing in a dressage test one day, and cutting out a beast the following day. Creating horses with the willingness and confidence to have a go at what is in front of them is key – always rewarding the try. The tagline for my business is, ‘Working towards having a horse that works with you, and wants to work with you’. With any horse, and especially a new horse, I am looking to build and balance their mental, emotional and physical states. When you do your job right as a retrainer, you can match the horse to the right rider for the right purpose, ultimately resulting in a long-term home where the horse is valued.”

Alexandra holds a Certificate II in Vet Nursing and is currently completing a Cert IV in Animal Behaviour and Training. Alexandra runs her retraining business from her 20 acre farm located in the Gympie region.
