Award
The Horse and Greyhound Award covers employers and their employees in the horse and greyhound training industry.
Employees are covered if the award has a classification for the work they do.
The horse and greyhound training industry means the training and preparation of:
- animals for the thoroughbred
- trotting
- harness
- greyhound racing industries
and covers the roles of:
- pre-training
- grooming
- fending
- handling
- stabling and exercising of animals
- cleaning
- care and maintenance of stables and training equipment
- care and leading in of horses at race meetings.
Examples of employees covered by the Horse and Greyhound Award include:
- stablehands
- track riders
- stable foremen
- training assistants
- trainers
- apprentice jockeys.
The Horse and Greyhound Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the horse and greyhound training industry.
