Punter's Guide to Thoroughbred Tracks
INCITER (7) has the 2nd line to overcome but his record at the track is superb, having yet to miss a top-3 in 10 appearances. Working home wide off the track last start he was 10m from the winner LIGHTHORSE which followed a tough 3rd from gate 5 at Redcliffe. Just needs factors in his favour.
MY WINGMAN (2) was facing the breeze last start and was well below his best in fading out and beaten a long way. His Armidale run 2 starts back was full of merit when hitting the line nicely after being snagged back from gate 6 and with the improved gate can hustle hard to get across.
MANWITHTHEESKI (1) did some work in the run last start when pressing ahead to find the front from gate 6 before fading off late. If he can muster the speed to hold the front he can go close.
EXPRESS PASS (5) has placed in 4 of his past 5 starts with the latest on the grass at Kilcoy when a 9m 2nd. Over the Marburg sprint 2 stars back he was 3rd from the pocket trail and can be in the mix.
SELECTIONS: INCITER (7), MY WINGMAN (2), MANWITHTHEESKI (1), EXPRESS PASS (5)
SUGGESTED BET: INCITER (7) to win
JUST TOMMY (7) was 3rd up in Qld and for over 12 months when scoring a dominant win at AP on Thursday. Sent straight to the front from gate 5 he was never in danger in scoring a strong 8m victory. He had built to that with a pair of nice runs and with the confidence can go again.
WHATA STRIDE (8) is in consistent touch and has now placed her past 6 in succession. The latest was a nice effort when working home from the 2nd line to be 1m from the winner MY ULTIMATE JOE. The gate hurts but he can look to work into the contest to get into a favourable position.
NEWMERELLA MOLLY (2) is a 4YO mare making her debut for Max and Brett Towns. Out of the former handy race-mare Delectable Dolly, she can look to make the most of the good alley.
DALLAS COWGIRL (5) has no favours from the wide gate but might just look to get across early to get handy. 2nd here 2 starts back from the 2nd line, she is an exotic hope to include.
SELECTIONS: JUST TOMMY (7), WHATA STRIDE (8), NEWMERELLA MOLLY (2), DALLAS COWGIRL (5)
SUGGESTED BET: JUST TOMMY (7) to win
MAKINMEFEELGOOD (1) returns following a spell after an career-opening campaign that realised a pair of placings from 7 attempts. Last start from gate 3 he looked to take them all the way at AP when grabbed in the stretch. With a pipe-opening trial to prepare, he can open his win account.
LITTLE BOLT (4) started 4 times as a 2YO for a return of 1 placing. He made an error at the last start of his 2YO term and looked sharp in winning a trial to prepare for his return. From the gate he looks set to work and won’t be too far away.
PERFECT FEELING (2) is on debut for Bill Crosby and is a Mr Feelgood 3YO from the mare Silkenart. He did everything right in a recent mixed trial and from the good alley will be in the mix.
JILLIBY MACARENA (8) makes his Marburg debut following his latest start when fading off late after fighting the driver in the run. Till searching for a Qld victory, he can be running on late in this.
SELECTIONS: MAKINMEFEELGOOD (1), LITTLE BOLT (4), PERFECT FEELING (2), JILLIBY MACARENA (8)
SUGGESTED BET: MAKINMEFEELGOOD (1) to win
DAVEYS GIFT (8) was a winner 3 starts back of a 20m tape after being sent forward to the breeze and from that position was able to control the race and score a 2m victory. Off 50m at his next 2 starts and well beaten in each, the return to discretionary conditions suits and he can take this.
NORAHS FLING (6) was buried away on the pegs last start and was charging home in the closing stages to grab 2nd. Beaten 13m here 2 starts back after starting from a 10m tape, she will gain the 10m relief from DAVEYS GIFT out of that race and can look to capitalise.
GO AHEAD MAKEMYDAY (7) stepped cleanly and after pouncing on the pegs last start led then deep into the stretch and was only rundown late. With a solid Marburg record he will be in the mix.
BOURBONONTHEROCKS (4) was a winner at just his 3rd career start last time out when finding the line in top order from back in the pack. With the confidence from the win he can look to build on it.
SELECTIONS: DAVEYS GIFT (8), NORAHS FLING (6), GO AHEAD MAKEMYDAY (7), BOURBONONTHEROCKS (4)
SUGGESTED BET: DAVEYS GIFT (8) to win
UNDERTHEKILT (1) took on a much stronger race last start and after holding up early from the ace soon took cover before fading out to be well beaten. He looked to take them all the way at Redcliffe 4 starts back and with the speed to lead here will be gripping on in the stretch.
OMINOUS FLYER (6) will be sweating on the 1 and hoping open track presents with time to issue a challenge. Runner-up in both runs from a break, he tried to dictate last start when grabbed in the closing stages by BLUE EYED CREATION. He will be probing for gaps here and be sprinting hard.
LIVE IN STYLE (4) will take benefit from her latest start when resuming after close to 7 months on the sidelines. Working home wide out from a 2nd line gate there was merit in the run and she has claims.
PAQUIN (2) returns from a break and will be making her 1st Marburg appearance. Last seen back in April, she struck trouble in the run and duly went straight for a break. Podium claims from the gate.
SELECTIONS: UNDERTHEKILT (1), OMINOUS FLYER (6), LIVE IN STYLE (4), PAQUIN (2)
SUGGESTED BET: UNDERTHEKILT (1) to win
INVITE ONLY (7) settled in the pocket trail 3 starts back in a strong mares event and chased hard to the line to grab the silver behind OPONONIS BLISS. She has been devoid of luck at her past 2 appearances when looking for gaps in the run and creating her own luck here can look to cash-in.
WECANONLYHOPE (2) was an Armidale winner 5 starts back when finishing over the top for a nice victory. Buried in the run 2 starts back when unable to make any late impact, she can look to use her early speed to find position.
DOMESTIC ART (4) has a great record here on the track and despite the tricky gate will be in the contest at some stage. Gunned down his past two when looking lead throughout, he won’t be too far away.
TAKITIMU EXPRESS (5) has no favours from outside the front line and his finish can be dictated by how hard he works in the run. If able to find position without over-cooking it, he has claims.
SELECTIONS: INVITE ONLY (7), WECANONLYHOPE (2), DOMESTIC ART (4), TAKITIMU EXPRESS (5)
SUGGESTED BET: INVITE ONLY (7) to win
FLAMING HERO (7) faces a tricky gate here but with the field of 7 can look to get around them at some point. He gets into this on a big class drop after last start not having the best of luck and not beaten far behind REMEMBER THEM. After runs behind LILAC FLASH and THE SPACE INVADER since resuming, this looks ideal.
CROWNING GLORY (1) raced in the pocket trail last start and chased gamely in the stretch to be within 2m of the winner. Looking to take them all the way at Redcliffe 2 starts back, he was grabbed late. With the benefit of the inside gate he will be looking to stave off the challengers.
PHANTOM ROCKSTAR (2) returns from a spell after being sent for a break when doing his share of work in the run when 4th to LEXUS ON THE BEACH. He can settle hand from this gate and be thereabouts.
OFFICIANADO (3) had an early look last start before taking cover and then finished 13m from the winner. Well held in recent appearances, he will be looking for gaps here and can be an improver.
SELECTIONS: FLAMING HERO (7), CROWNING GLORY (1), PHANTOM ROCKSTAR (2), OFFICIANADO (3)
SUGGESTED BET: FLAMING HERO (7) to win
STEVIE DEE (4) started from gate 5 last start and did some early work before the 1x1 position availed itself. Only finishing 2m from ADRIFT last start, with that guy since winning again, the effort was good in being able to work home strongly for the silver and with even luck this looks well within reach.
SLIPASLYGRIN (1) is yet to win in 7 appearances at Marburg and has only scored one placing in that period. Not suited when forced to cut the breeze last start, he faded out in the closing stages and with the return to the inside gate will be looking to dictate.
JUMPING JOLT (6) will be hoping some luck can fall his way, with his position in the run as he steps out in Qld for the 1st time. Only beaten 4m over the sprint trip 2 starts back, he must be respected.
OLIVER WINKLE (9) has been freshened since his latest outing when fading out in the closing stages. A Redcliffe winner 4 starts back from the 2nd line, he will be right in the fight.
SELECTIONS: STEVIE DEE (4), SLIPASLYGRIN (1), JUMPING JOLT (6), OLIVER WINKLE (9)
SUGGESTED BET: Exotics 1-4-6-9
