Bloodstock consultant James Dawson has travelled far and wide inspecting yearlings and is impressed with the quality catalogued for the QTIS Magic Millions March sales which starts on Monday week.

The two-day sale follows Saturday’s gala Gold Coast meeting which features the second running of the $500,000 Aquis Jewel (1200m) for two-year-olds and the $200,000 Aquis Jewel for three-year-olds over the same distance.

The $197,500 Listed Goldmarket Handicap (1200m) also will be one of the meeting’s highlights.

The Magic Millions QTIS March sale is regarded as one of the country’s best value sales and Dawson believes this year’s quality is at a high standard again.

Dawson has been a consultant with Magic Millions for 10 years after working for Coolmore and Keeneland overseas.

Dawson expects another bumper sale and rates it as the best stallion sale every produced by Magic Millions.

“It should be a very strong sale again with nearly 400 lots catalogued,” Dawson said.

“Prizemoney levels have picked up in recent times which has given buyers a lot of confidence.

“It’s probably the best stallion sale we’ve ever had with Spirit Of Boom, Better Than Ready, Spill The Beans and Rich Enuff.

“It’s too hard to say which will be the sale topper.”

Better Than Ready has 49 yearlings catalogued, closely followed by Spill The Beans with 42 while Spirit Of Boom has 30 yearlings and Rich Enuff with 15 yearlings.

Rich Enuff, a son of Written Tycoon, stood for one season at Glenlogan Park before returning to Victoria.

He won three of his 12 starts for Peter and Paul Snowden including the Group 2 Danehill Stakes and ran second to Shooting To Win in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas in 2014.

Spill The Beans stands at Aquis Farm in the Gold Coast hinterland and won five of his 11 starts for Sydney trainer Gerald Ryan.

A son of Snitzel, Spill The Beans’ best win was in the 2016 QTIC Cup at Eagle Farm.

Leading trainers Rob Heathcote, Tony Gollan and Chris Munce will be among the buyers hoping to snare a future star from the sales.

Munce won last year’s two-year-old The Jewel with Boomsara who went on to win the $2 million Magic Millions Guineas at the Gold Coast in January.

The Jewel was Munce’s biggest payday as a trainer before he claimed the Magic Millions Guineas.

Buffering cost $22,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions March sales and finished his career with $7.3 million in prizemoney from 20 wins in 55 starts including seven Group 1 wins.
