Punter's Guide to Thoroughbred Tracks
THE BOYS GNP (5) took on the 2040m trip first up in Qld last week and from the 2nd line he was back in the pack and the widest runner making his move from the 450m. The closing 150m was strong but couldn’t quite pick-up the leader and winner. He strikes a winnable race here and can cash-in.
MAJOR GENERALJUJON (1) started from gate 3 last start and didn’t have the cleanest passage when finishing 7m from the winner HARD TO HEAR. A big winner in a 3YO event last time he was able to lead, he has been chasing in most of his recent outings and with the improved gate will be gripping on.
CONTRARY COURAGE (7) was a winner here 3 starts back when able to lead throughout over the 1780m trip. She met a slick field at her next start and with a cosy run against the pegs has place claims.
DOOLITTLE DOOFY (8) pushed on from the 2nd line here 4 starts back and finding the front was able to score a solid win. He can look for the pegs early here and with the inside line can chime in late.
SELECTIONS: THE BOYS GNP (5), MAJOR GENERALJUJON (1), CONTRARY COURAGE (7), DOOLITTLE DOOFY (8)
SUGGESTED BET: THE BOYS GNP (5) to win
WERELIVINGTHEDREAM (1) slotted in behind the leader last start from gate 2 and chased hard to finish a 4m 3rd behind the fast-finishing GREGS LEGACY. This looks a shade easier than what she has been meeting and with the options from the gate looks to get her chance.
FAMOUS SHOES (7) is on the back-up from Tues and from this gate should be securing a nice run in transit. His run 2 starts back saw him work hard in the early stages to secure position when mid-field behind BLAZING VC. With the easy trip he can challenge here.
GLASSCUTTERSPIRIT (5) will strip fitter from his latest outing when returning from a freshen. Sent for a let-up after a late closing run over the mile at AP, he can look for cover here and be closing out late.
ANNAS BEST (2) took on a mares qualifier 3 starts back and after that looked to have found her race when a beaten fav. With good early speed she can take a shot with her chances resting on where she can positon.
SELECTIONS: WERELIVINGTHEDREAM (1), FAMOUS SHOES (7),GLASSCUTTERSPIRIT (5), ANNAS BEST (2)
SUGGESTED BET: WERELIVINGTHEDREAM (1) to win
MAYTHEHORSEBWITHU (1) wasn’t interested to push early last start from gate 2 and then didn’t see much space in the run when 9m from the winner JUST ROKIN. That followed a pair of wide gates where he wasn’t suited and with the ace gate he can hustle early to protect and look to dictate.
PHOTOZEN (3) is on the short back-up after going around Wed night where he looks well placed. Buried on the pegs 2 starts back from inside the 2nd line he struck a strong Gold Pot heat and chased home behind OPONONIS BLISS. If he takes no ill-effect from the Wed run, he is right in the mix here.
VELOCE BELLA (2) followed the pegs to claim the bronze in a Gold Pot heat before striking trouble in the final. Charging home from the 2nd line last start she went within a nose of victory and won’t be far away again here.
IFYOUBELIEVE (7) looked to take them all the way over the AP mile 2 starts back and it took the smart MUCH BETTOR to run him down. Forget his latest run when striking trouble, he can get away from the pegs early if need be and has claims.
SELECTIONS: MAYTHEHORSEBWITHU (1), PHOTOZEN (3), VELOCE BELLA (2), IFYOUBELIEVE (7)
SUGGESTED BET: MAYTHEHORSEBWITHU (1) to win
DARBY BRIGHTS (2) worked in behind the leader from this same gate last start and after the gun trip rolled to the outside in the stretch to score a comfortable victory. That followed a nice effort from inside the 2nd line at AP when hitting the line in good order. With an excellent record on the triangle she looks hard to stop.
SPEEDIE MCARDLE (4) started from gate 7 over the 2138m at AP 3 starts back and was hitting the line strongly to be less than 2m from the winner VADER. Against the tempo last start when TOM ME GUN dictated in front, he is right in the mix here.
JUSTA DALE (8) will find this easier than what he has been meeting in recent starts and from the gate can trail through early to settle handy. His run 2 starts back in a conditioned band 5 event had merit and he won’t be far away here.
EARL JUJON (5) found his race at AP 3 starts back and despite landing gate 7 was too slick in the closing stages. He fought hard from the breeze last start and will be in for the fight again here.
SELECTIONS: DARBY BRIGHTS (2), SPEEDIE MCARDLE (4), JUSTA DALE (8), EARL JUJON (5)
SUGGESTED BET: DARBY BRIGHTS (2), to win
LETHAL PROMISE (6) returns from a freshen after a string of minor placings. Winning over the 1780m trip here 14 starts back, he has placed in every run since, the latest when 2nd to the in-form GOODTIME STRIDE. The gate hurts but he can work in his runs and in restricted class can take the win.
DIABOLO STAR (2) might not have the greatest numbers next to his name yet he should appreciate this class of contest considerably more than what he has been meeting. In his past 5 starts he has run into some smart in-form performers including the likes of SPRING CAMPAIGN and MR KALYPSO.
CHEYENNE WARRIOR (5) rolled forward from gate 5 at AP 2 starts back and then found cover when 5m from the winner FARRAHFOWLER. Too far back last start he can be in the mix here.
OSCARS GLORY (3) worked to the front last start before releasing and from the pocket trail couldn’t go when the pace went on. He looks better suited in this and can find the podium.
SELECTIONS: LETHAL PROMISE (6), DIABOLO STAR (2), CHEYENNE WARRIOR (5), OSCARS GLORY (3)
SUGGESTED BET: LETHAL PROMISE (6) to win
BROADWATER (2) started fav last start but he was always looked to be buried in the run which is not his style. His run 2 starts back was a solid effort when rolling forward to the breeze and fighting hard when only grabbed right on the line after doing all the work. Better suited here he can cash-in.
MAHALO (1) aims for the hat-trick after wins at the AP 2138m and the 2040m here when leading all the way in each. Last start she was allowed to run a steady tempo and the AP win was a nice effort when sprinting a sharp closing 800m. There looks more pressure here and she will be gripping on.
FEEL THE REIGN (3) sat in the pocket trail 2 starts back when running a 3m 2nd to the in-form GOODTIME STRIDE. Pressing to the front last start he was grabbed on the line and will be in the mix again.
BIG BEAT (4) was a winner here 5 starts back from this gate when starting in red figures and finishing over the top. Placed in all 4 since with 3 of those from 2nd line gates he can throw down a challenge.
SELECTIONS: BROADWATER (2), MAHALO (1), FEEL THE REIGN (3), BIG BEAT (4)
SUGGESTED BET: BROADWATER (2) to win
JUST ROKIN (4) was building towards a victory and after a tough effort when looming up to score over the 2138m trip at AP was only grabbed near the post. Last start over the 1780m she again rolled to the breeze and controlled the race and proved too strong. She can look to repeat here.
WILLSINTOWN (2) speared out from gate 7 at AP 2 starts back before releasing the speed and finishing a 2m 2nd. Off the 2nd line here last start he sat in the running line before sprinting clear and putting them away with a huge win. From the gate he will be 1st to the pegs and is right in the mix.
ARBIT MAJOR (3) rolled to the breeze from this same gate last start and went down swinging when only a neck from the winner. He hasn’t been far away since winning here 5 starts back and can go close again.
TAP IT IN (8) made the most of the circumstances 2 starts back when going forward to take control over the AP mile and holding on for the win. Driven tough last start he has place claims in this.
SELECTIONS: JUST ROKIN (4), WILLSINTOWN (2), ARBIT MAJOR (3), TAP IT IN (8)
SUGGESTED BET: Exotics 2-3-4-8
