GENERAL
 
As P. Cullen and S. Sheargold were not riding at today’s meeting, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Following a report from QRIC steward Mr S. Heidke, trainer T. Rowe was found guilty of a charge under AR. 175(n) in that he applied a twitch to the nose of MBWALI when saddling that runner prior to Race 8. After considering the circumstances of the incident and his unblemished record over a long period of time, stewards fined Mr Rowe the sum of $400.
 
Race 1: ASTUTE FINANCIAL – DONNIE MARTIN QTIS 2YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 870M
 
GREYSERENE – Slow to begin.
 
SHE STRYKES IT – Began awkwardly. Shifted wider rounding the home turn.
 
MT PETER MISS – Laid out rounding the home turn and shifted out under pressure over the final 200m.
 
Race 2: 100 CLUB MEMBERSHIP ON SALE BENCHMARK 65 H'CAP – 870M
 
The start of this race was delayed when the saddle on LATTIMER required adjustment.
 
EXCEEDINGLY KOOL – Raced three wide throughout without cover.
 
CRAIGLEA ALDI – Slow to begin.
 
FRENCH JET – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
Race 3: FARMALOGIC EQUINE VIT&MIN BENCHMARK 65 H'CAP – 1400M
 
ROSE CLIP – B. Thomson was reprimanded for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Thomson’s good record in relation to the whip rule.
 
VIVA LAS VEGAS – Raced three wide throughout without cover.
 
RATHDOWNEY AVENUE – Slow to begin. C. Jokic was reprimanded for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Jokic’s good record in relation to the whip rule.
 
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to HEAVY 8.
 
Race 4: FUTURE COMPUTERS MAIDEN PLATE – 1250M
 
ACCORDIAN – Slow to begin.
 
BOBTHEACCOUNTANT – When questioned regarding the performance, which was below market expectations, rider S. Pawsey stated that the horse travelled well in the run, however, when placed under pressure near the 400m failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion was disappointing. Jockey Pawsey added that he was of the opinion that BOBTHEACCOUNTANT had not backed up following its previous start at Cairns on 22 January 2019. 
 
WILLIWIN SOME – Bumped leaving the 200m.
 
STRADA GRANDE – Raced wide throughout.
 
GROOVY PLAYMATE – Slow to begin. Ducked in under pressure leaving the 200m, bumping WILLIWIN SOME.
 
Race 5: CORNETTS SUPA IGA PORT DOUGLAS OPEN H'CAP – 1250M
 
Following the running of this event stewards interviewed starter Mr R. Hanson and all riders from the event. It was subsequently established that Mr Hanson did not activate the start and that the barrier gates had opened prematurely, and further, that Mr Hanson had immediately  activated both the false start siren and false start light. In the circumstances, stewards acting under AR. 139 declared the event void and ordered that all monies invested on the event be refunded.
 
The barriers were tested successfully on a number of occasions prior to the running of Race 6.
 
Race 6: RED BERET HOTEL BENCHMARK 55 H'CAP – 1250M
 
LAKOTA SIOUX – Slow to begin.
 
UNCHARTERED – W. D’Avila reported at scale that in his opinion his mount did not handle the prevailing track conditions.
 
ROSE OF KALLONI – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to race.
 
Race 7: MARANO’S FUEL BENCHMARK 55 H'CAP – 1250M
 
FLYING ONE MORE – Improved on to heels near the 400m and had to be steadied.
 
KALAHARI PEARL – Performed disappointingly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer S. Horner was advised that in light of the gelding’s poor performance KALAHARI PEARL would be barred from competing at TAB meetings until the gelding establishes form at country venues.
 
ROOSTER HUNTER – Reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer G. Horner was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s pre-race manners.
 
MUST BE OBEYED – Taken wider rounding the home turn.
 
NORTHERN REVENGE – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
SUPAMETEOR – Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 8: CAIRNS CAR BROKERS CLASS 2 PLATE – 870M
 
After being loaded, CRAIGLEA MARIAH (N. Yadi) was fractious in the barriers and became cast. CRAIGLEA MARIAH was declared a late scratching at 4:57 pm. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on CRAIGLEA MARIAH be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 4:57 pm:
 
4 cents in the dollar for the win #5
7 cents in the dollar for place of winner #5
5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #1
4 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #6
 
Trainer A. Bailey was advised that CRAIGLEA MARIAH will require a further barrier certificate prior to its next start.
 
As jockey N. Yadi sustained an ankle injury in the incident and required emergency treatment, he was transported to Cairns Hospital. Jockey Yadi will require a medical clearance before resuming riding.
 
As a result of a delay awaiting the arrival of a replacement ambulance, the start time of this race was rescheduled to 5:30 pm. The start was further delayed to avoid a clash with an interstate harness event.
 
KEEN INSTINCT – Raced wide throughout.
 
ELITE JET – Slow to muster speed.
 
GOOD AS DONE – Raced wide throughout.
 
SPARKLY STAR – Momentarily held up for clear running near the 200m.
 
MAITRE DEE – Shifted out under pressure near the 200m. Rider A. Thomson accidentally dropped her whip approaching the 100m. Broke down in the off foreleg approaching the finishing line and was quickly restrained by its rider. MAITRE DEE was attended to by the on-course veterinarian and was subsequently euthanased on humane grounds.
 
BETTER BE CAUTIOUS – As no other rider was available, stewards permitted K. Rockett to ride the horse 1kg over its allotted weight.
 
Race 9: PORT DOUGLAS AFL CROCS FOOTBALL CLUB QTIS JEWEL QUALIFIER THREE-YEARS- – 870M
 
RESADOWSKA was a late scratching at 5:09 pm when no rider was available to replace N. Yadi, who had sustained an injury in Race 8 and had been transported to hospital. As betting on the race had not commenced, no deductions were applicable.
 
As a result of the amended start time of Race 8, this event was rescheduled to 6:05 pm.
 
The start of this race was delayed to avoid a clash with an interstate harness event.
 
AETHERIUS – Checked at the 200m when tightened for room between LAGA LAD, which shifted out marginally, and DANCING DIVA, which shifted in under pressure when not fully clear. K. Rockett, the rider of DANCING DIVA, was reprimanded and advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.
 
DANCING DIVA – As no other rider was available, stewards permitted K. Rockett to ride the horse 1.5kg over its allotted weight. Raced wide throughout. K. Rockett was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race.
 
BANK TELLER – Slow to begin. Lost the near fore plate in running.
 
FLINDERS HIWAY – Bumped at the start when LAGA LAD jumped inwards.
 
DE LADY DELUXE – Slow to begin.
 
LAGA LAD – Jumped in at the start making contact with FLINDERS HIWAY.
