The declaration of correct weight was delayed when apprentice S. Lacy, the rider of 4th placegetter GLENDARA, viewed the stewards’ patrol footage to determine whether she had grounds on which to lodge an objection.

Stewards inquired into an incident that occurred shortly after the start which resulted in BODEGA NEGRA becoming unbalanced when bumped by ZOFONIC DANCER, which in turn had been unbalanced after being bumped heavily by EL CAMPEADOR, which was also bumped heavily by DESERT GENERAL when that gelding was severely crowded and bumped when racing to the inside of BEL BURGESS, which shifted inwards abruptly. In this incident DESERT GENERAL clipped heels, blundered and lost ground. After taking evidence from all riders and viewing the videos it was ascertained that shortly after the start the whip and left hand of apprentice C. Gallagher, the rider of BEL BURGESS, had become entangled with the horse’s mane and breastplate whilst he was riding his mount forward aggressively. As a result, apprentice Gallagher attempted to free his left hand and whilst doing so BEL BURGESS shifted inwards abruptly. Apprentice Gallagher then attempted to relieve the pressure to runners to his inside, however, his mount took a number of strides to respond as it had also became unbalanced in this incident. After considering the matter, stewards advised apprentice Gallagher that, because of his actions, he would be referred to the Riding Skills Panel for tutelage.

BEL BURGESS – Stewards accepted trainer D. Murphy’s explanation for the late declaration of apprentice C. Gallagher as rider. Rider’s hands and whip became entangled in the horse’s mane shortly after the start whilst being ridden forward aggressively. Shifted in abruptly shortly after the start, crowding runners to the inside and became unbalanced.

GLENDARA – Slow to begin. Raced wide leaving the 800m. Had to be checked near the 100m. L. Cassidy, the rider of EL CAMPEADOR, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 100m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of GLENDARA. Jockey Cassidy’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 14 October and expire at midnight on Tuesday 23 October 2018.
