Upon an inspection of the track on arrival, Stewards downgraded the track surface from a Good 3 to a Soft 5.
 
As rider M. Stephens was not able to ride at today’s meeting due to illness. Rider replacements were made as per Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Race 1: Bill Smith Maiden Plate 1000m
 
EDGEROI JEWEL – Delayed the start when the filly proved difficult to load. Trainer C Smith was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly. Shifted in on jumping and raced tailed off.
 
REAL DEAL MCNEILL – Bumped on jumping.
 
ICE WARRIOR – Bumped on jumping.
 
ABSOLUTE BONZA – Rider D. Evans reported the gelding hung out from near the 800 metres.
 
Rider L. Dillion (PAPER TALK) was fined $300 for use of whip prior to the 100 metres.
 
Race 2: Gai Waterhouse Class 1 Handicap 1000m
 
GOHAN – Race three wide with cover throughout. Rider D. Simmons reported that the gelding failed to handle the track.
 
NOCK WITH YA ELBOW – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Shifted out when under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
COZURSMART – Shifted out when under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
JELLYBEAN – Bumped at the start. Rider M. Barnham reported that the mare failed to handle the track.
 
BROW ROWEL – Bumped at the start and lost ground. Raced three wide with cover in the middle stages. Shifted out when under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
TEMPUS – Post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from mild colic.
 
ZORRO FEMININO – Raced ungenerously near the 800 metres for a short distance.
 
EXCEED TO WIN – Commenced to weaken entering the home straight.
 
Following this event riders expressed concerns with sections of the track entering the course proper near 800 metres and the general state of the track. After consultation with all riders and Club president stewards where comfortable to proceed.
 
Race 3: Pam O’Neill Open Handicap 1000m
 
FASTNET FLYER – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
ROOI ROE – Raced three wide no cover in the early stages.
 
MAKE AMENDS – Stewards permitted rider L. Dillon to ride half kilogram over weight.
 
OSSENHAGEN – Rider E. Smith had difficulties riding her mount out when the gelding commenced to laid in and when AUTHADANE laid out over the concluding stages.
 
Race 4: Victoria Shaw Class B Handicap 1300m
 
The start was delayed when Queensland Ambulance Services attended to a patron.
 
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow the Stewards to view the photo finish image for 2nd and 3rd placings. After doing so Stewards were satisfied with Judge’s placings and declared correct weight.
 
TOM’S STAR – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
BOLD SAM – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced four wide without cover throughout.
 
FUN FOR ME - Tightened for room shortly after the start. Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
DOUBLEO CI – Began awkwardly.
 
AMAHERO – Began awkwardly.
 
CRAIGLEA ARION – Shifted wider near the 300m.
 
Race 5: Micheele Payne BenchMark 55 Handicap 1615m
 
Upon arrival at barriers, rider D. Evans expressed concerns with the action of SOUTHERN ALBATROSS. Subsequently underwent a veterinary examination and was declared a late scratching at 4:12pm. All wagers placed prior to the late scratching were subject to the following deductions:
 
9 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
12 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets
 
Stewards will follow up with trainer A. O’Sullivan in relation to the gelding.
 
CRAIGLEA VIRTUE – Slow to muster early speed.
