Race 1: EMPLOYSURE QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1710 metres


MONEY SHOT – Slow to begin. After being caught wide in the early stages, the rider elected to progress forward and obtain the position outside the leader near the 1200 metres.

NIAB – When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance co-trainer Daniel Guy stated with the blinkers off NIAB relaxed better over the longer distance of todays race and moving forward it would be the stables intention to continue to step the gelding up in distance.

ACCARDO – Rider J Byrne stated the gelding did not let down as expected when placed under pressure and would be better suited to races over a longer distance than today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination of ACCARDO revealed no abnormalities.

HUDOO VUDOO – Slow to begin.




Race 2: RIVER 94.9FM QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1350 metres


KIPCHOGE – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SIZZLING RIVER.

PALLADAS – Held up rounding the home-turn.

SIZZLING RIVER – After being slow to begin, was tightened for room by KIPCHOGE which shifted in.




Race 3: IPSWICHTURFCLUB.COM.AU Maiden Handicap 1200 metres


KAIBERRY – Bumped on jumping. Passing 1000 metres over-raced for a short distance. Near the 700 metres was restrained from the heels of TOPLINE.

PERFECT IMPRESSION – Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start was bumped and crowded for room between MARCHEKY BOY and LEAVE ME ALONG which laid in.

BOOM EXPRESS – After being crossed by MARCHEKY BOY near the 900 metres, raced ungenerously for a short distance. Held up from 400 metres until approaching the 200 metres before being shifted wider on the track to obtain clear running.

ATE HINCHES – Approaching the 800 metres when the pace steadied became awkwardly placed at the heels of KAIBERRY. Passing the 600 metres was again restrained from the heels of KAIBERRY. Rider L Tilley reported the gelding was inclined to race greenly at various stages of the event and in his opinion would derive benefit from the run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

TESTABELLO – Raced three wide without cover from 700 metres.

LEAVE ME ALONG – Shortly after the start bumped on the hindquarters and laid in. Raced three wide with cover from 700 metres. Momentarily held up rounding the home-turn before shifting out to secure clear running near the 250 metres.

MARCHEKY BOY – Bumped at the start. Laid out rounding the home-turn. When asked to comment on tactics adopted rider M Du Plesis stated he was issued no specific instructions however after beginning well and runners to inside not showing early speed, he allowed the gelding to progress forward and lead the event.




Race 4: TAB VENUE MODE Class 4 Handicap 1710 metres

After being loaded into the barriers BACK THE ROCK reared and became cast, was removed, examined by the Veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 2:31pm. The start of this event was further delayed when TEMUJIN’S RULE, which was in the adjoining stall to BACK THE ROCK, was removed from the barriers, examined by the Veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

On declaration of correct weight Stewards declared all bets on BACK THE ROCK be refunded with the following deductions on successful bets to apply:

1st ALDERMAN - 11 cents win, 7 cents place
2nd BRINKMANSHIP - 21 cents place
3rd SMOKEY DIAMOND - 15 cents place

Trainer D Bougoure was advised BACK THE ROCK must trial prior to its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations to both hind legs.

Rider M Hellyer was examined by QAS staff and cleared to fulfill his remaining engagements. QAS staff also attended to a barrier attendant who was injured in this incident.

SNIPPETSPEED – Slow to begin.

SCHAPPOSE – Apprentice S Tomlinson was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(i) for consecutive strikes of the whip on two occasions prior to the 100 metres.




Race 5: CARLTON MID Class 2 Plate 1710 metres

BOOMI'S BUDDY – Laid out rounding the home-turn.

RICHEST – Shifted three wide with cover passing the 700 meters. Rounding the home-turn bumped on a number of occasions by EXPRESS DREAMS which shifted out to improve.

WEALTH'N'POWER – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

PURRFECT DEAL – When questioned regarding the performance, jockey Jag Guthmann- Chester stated that the mare travelled well throughout but failed to quicken approaching the 500m, however finished the race off quite well over the concluding stages. He added that in his opinion the mare would appreciate distances further than that of today's event. Stewards noted the explanation.

EXPRESS DREAMS – Began awkwardly. Passing the 1400 metres commenced to over-race when restrained from the heels of RICHEST. Held up rounding the home-turn.

ENCHANTED REIGN – Slow to begin.



Race 6: SIRROMET BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1350 metres


DENARIUS – Began awkwardly. Near 1000 metres was steadied away from the heels of ESKDALE GIRL. Passing the 800 metres when over-racing had to be restrained from the heels of SELES.

NAVAL STRIKE – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on tactics adopted Apprentice A Patis stated the gelding raced in a rearward position consistent with its most recent start and travelled fairly throughout however did in her opinion feel awkward in its action. She added although NAVAL STRIKE made some ground in the straight, she was reluctant to fully test the gelding over the concluding stages for this reason. Stewards noted the explanation of Apprentice Patis. A post-race veterinary examination of NAVAL STRIKE revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr K Kemp advised Stewards he would have his own Veterinary surgeon examine the gelding in the coming days and report any condition that may come to light. A Patis was reprimanded under AR114(2)(a) for failing to report a condition which may affect the running of a horse.

ARUBA – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

ESKDALE GIRL – Approaching the 800 metres restrained from the heels of BATTLE PLANE.

GRAND ZOU – Passing the 200 metres laid out when placed under pressure.

SELES – Slow to begin. Passing the 200 metres taken wider on the track by SO YOU BEAUTY which in turn was taken out by GRAND ZOU. Rider L Dittman was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a) (ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100 metres, one more than permitted.

SO YOU BEAUTY – Hampered passing the 200 metres when GRAND ZOU laid out under pressure.



Race 7: SCHWEPPES Fillies and Mares BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres


SOJOURNIST – Held up from the 350 metres until a point near the 150 metres.

JUST JESSIE – Began awkwardly.

COSSIE – Passing the 900 metres commenced to over-race and had to be restrained from the heels of BLOOMIN LILY. A short distance later was unable to be restrained from the heels of that runner and was shifted three wide and raced without cover from that point.

FLIRTY DEB – Held up for clear running from the 350 metres until passing the 200 metres. Approaching the winning post eased after improving onto the heels of SOUBRETTE.

SOUBRETTE – Held up rounding the home-turn.

SINGLE AGAIN – Slow to begin. Held up from the 350 metres before shifting wider on the track to obtain clear running near the 100 metres.


Race 8: BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT Colts, Geldings & Entires BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres


LYRICAL PRINCE – After being crossed by ABDICATING near the 900 metres commenced to over-race and passing the 800 metres was steadied from heels.

BROCKY – Shortly after the start steadied away from the heels of MAKE A RULER which shifted out.

MAKE A RULER – Began awkwardly and shifted out shortly after the start.

POCKET PISTOL – Passing the 300 metres was obliged to steady and alter course to the inside to avoid the heels of the weakening MAKE A RULER.

KATHMANDU – After arriving at the barriers underwent a Veterinary examination at the request of its rider and cleared to start. Began awkwardly.
