Race 1: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB Maiden Handicap 800 metres

MAX'S SOURCE – Slow to begin.

HIDDEN SPRING – Lost an off fore plate during the event.

BIG BAD BORIS – Slow to begin.

SAM'S A NATURAL – Hung out from the 600m.

DUSTY HAZE – Raced wide throughout.

BEATING DRUM – Rider G Goomany was advised to exercise far greater care in similar circumstances after permitting his mount to shift out passing the winning post resulting in BIG TALK being carried out and HIDDEN SPRING being steadied.

BELASYN – Hung out from the 600m.

THE WAITING MAN – Laid in in the home straight.

Race 2: HAPPY NEW YEAR Maiden Handicap 1350 metres

BATTAGLIA – Raced wide without cover from the 800m. Rider M Du Plessis reported that the gelding raced keenly and laid out throughout.

KUNGFLU – Held up rounding the home turn. Approaching the 100m, when improving, steadied over the heels of TRUST IN ALOHA.

TWO SHADES – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages.

TRUST IN ALOHA – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn. Near the 200m, after being held up, altered course to obtain a run to the inside of MISS GOLD BOUNTY which had shifted out. Rider R Maloney could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

MISS GOLD BOUNTY – Laid out in the early part of the home straight.

FAIRY DELL – Raced wide without cover until passing the 800m. Rider N Thomas reported that the mare was holding its breath and would be better suited with the addition of a tongue tie.


Race 3: BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT Maiden Handicap 1350 metres

KATANAROCK – Slow to begin.

CRAZY EYED FRED – Raced wide with cover. Rider M Du Plessis reported that his mount hung out throughout the event. Made the home turn awkwardly.

TRIPTONIC – Near the 500m was steadied when awkwardly placed between KATANAROCK which shifted out marginally and RISE’N’SHINE.

RISE'N'SHINE – Rider T Harrison pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(b) in that she failed to ride her mount out to the conclusion of the event. Jockey Harrison’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to begin midnight 09/01/21 and to conclude 16/01/21. In assessing penalty Stewards were of the view Jockey Harrison’s actions cost her mount 3rd placing.

JENO – Began awkwardly resulting in Apprentice K Wilson-Taylor becoming unbalanced. Raced wide without cover.

LEO THE LION – Performed below market expectation. Rider Andrew Spinks could not offer explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 4: TAB VENUE MODE BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1710 metres

MISS GEM – Over raced in the early stages and near the 1400m when MINOR LUCK lost ground was then permitted to stride forward wider on the track and consequently raced wide without cover from that point.

MINOR LUCK – After obtaining a position in the lead passing the 1500m the bit pulled through the geldings mouth resulting in Rider L Dittman being unable to control or steer the gelding and as a result was restrained to the rear of the field before being eased down the home straight. Rider L Dittman was issued a $300 fine under AR211 for returning to scale in an excess of 0.5kg overweight.

ABERLADY – Slow to begin.

Race 5: SEVEN QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1200 metres

COURTESY BUS – Rider R Wiggins reported his mount was disappointing in his finishing effort and in his opinion has come the end of its preparation.

MAGIC IN ME – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.

FOREVER VOLO – Apprentice K Wilson-Taylor reported his mount over raced throughout the event and as a result failed to finish off as he expected. Performed below market expectation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

LEMON DUCHESS – Began awkwardly, shifted out and made heavy contact with COURTESY BUS. Commenced to hang out from the 600m, shifted very wide on the track proving difficult to ride. Trainer G Cornish was advised the filly would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.

STARFILLY – Near the 1000m was crowded before losing its position when NICCI’S SPIRIT which was carried in by COURTESY BUS which had been carried in by FOREVER VOLO (K Wilson-Taylor (a)) which shifted in when not clear. Apprentice K Wilson-Taylor was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) for causing inference at that point of the race. Apprentice K Wilson-Taylor’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 03/01/21 and to conclude midnight 11/01/21.

SIP IT SLOW – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 150m was disappointed for a run and as a consequence was forced to shift to the outside to secure clear running.

Race 6: SIRROMET BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 800 metres

COMMANDEERING – Near the 500m was steadied to avoid the heels of ASK AUDREY which was bumped when momentarily carried in by KIRRA LASS.

RED WABBAT – Slow to begin.

ELECTRIC DRAGON – Raced wide without cover throughout.

VOX POPULI – Raced wide without cover throughout.

WARARBA – Laid out rounding the home turn and in the home straight.

ASK AUDREY – Bumped and became momentarily unbalanced near the 500m by KIRRA LASS (A Mallyon) which shifted in. Rider A Mallyon was issued a reprimand under AR131(a).

BAY OF DRAGONS – Raced wide without cover throughout.

Race 7: CARLTON MID Class 4 Handicap 1200 metres

STAY SMART – Slow to begin.

VIVENDO IL SOGNO – Began awkwardly and bumped heavily with BIG ARJAY before shifting in and bumped NICK THE SKIP.

WATCHMEN – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer J Dann was advised the mare will require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing.

SAY I CEE YOU – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages.

BIG ARJAY – Began awkwardly and bumped with VIVENDO IL SOGNO.


Race 8: SCHWEPPES BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1350 metres

THE IRONS – Raced 3 wide without cover. Laid in during the home straight.

ROYAL SHEEN – Slow to begin.

VICTORY TOAST – Stewards questioned Apprentice M Potgieter in regards to the tactics adopted on the mare from near the 800m. App. Potgieter advised that he was instructed to ride the mare aggressively in an endeavour to obtain the leading position if possible. After reviewing the patrol footage Stewards advised Apprentice Potgieter that when it was evident he would not be able to cross by the 700m he would have been better served to take hold of his mount and race at the leaders girth in an endeavour to give his mount an easier run to enable it to finish the race off competitively. Stewards did not however believe that the actions of App. Potgieter fell below the requisite standard expected and therefore no further action was taken.

CELTIC TIGER – Slow to begin.

Race 9: THOROUGHBREDS SPORTS BAR Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres

HENLEY MISS – Slow to begin.

POINT THE WAGON – Slow to begin.

OUR BOY BORRIS – Over raced passing the 800m and continued to over race in the middle stages.
