GENERAL
 
As M Rodd is ill and not able to attend today’s meeting, Stewards permitted riding changes as per the Stewards Raceday Summary.
 
Apprentice K Wilson-Taylor was permitted by Stewards to only claim 2.5kg of his 3kg allowance in Race 1 on DAME MARGOT and Race 5 on ONE SHY RUBY due to a misunderstanding in regards to him having his minimum weight altered and approved prior to today’s meeting.
 
Due to personal reasons jockey Andrew Spinks was unable to fulfil his engagement in Race 6 on BUDDY’S TALE and was replaced as per the Stewards Raceday Summary.
 
 
Race 1: FESTIVAL OF HORSEPOWER SOIREE Maiden Handicap 1710 metres
 
 
LOVE DEMON – Slow to begin. Weakened noticeably in the home straight. Rider T Wolfgram couldn’t offer any excuse for the disappointing performance.
 
SHOTGUN BOBBY – Slow to begin.
 
DAME MARGOT – After beginning well and caught wide was obliged to restrain to a rearward position to obtain cover and subsequently raced three wide with cover from the 1200m.
 
DUSTINS – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
LUNA AMANTE – Raced three wide early before obtaining the position outside the leader. Following the event and upon pulling up the filly sustained an injury to the off foreleg. Upon examination the veterinary surgeon determined that the filly had fractured the off fore fetlock and was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds.  A post-mortem swab sample was taken for analysis. Jockey R Fradd was not injured in this incident.
 
XTRA REWARD – Had to have the saddle adjusted after arriving at the barriers. Began awkwardly and then raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
 
 
Race 2: BRING THE FAMILY 6 JUNE Maiden Plate 1100 metres
 
 
PIVOTAL MOTION – Rider B Thompson reported that from the wide barrier he was obliged to restrain to obtain a position closer to the rail and therefore settled further back than anticipated.
 
CORBIN – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.
 
RIGHT REASON – Slow to begin.
 
SUPER GORGEOUS – After being loaded into the barriers became fractious, was removed from the barrier, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Hampered on jumping.
 
MAIL TRAIN MAID – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
SNAP THE LUCK – Forced wider near the 600m when RIGHT REASON shifted out to improve.
 
POSITIVE TENSION – Raced three wide without cover throughout and was momentarily forced four wide near the 600m.
 
 
 
Race 3: CHANNEL SEVEN BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 1710 metres
 
 
 
SENRIMA TIDE (NZ) – Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping and became unbalanced.
 
PROSPECTUS – Began awkwardly, then bumped and lost ground. Near the 1000m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SOUTHERN SWING which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey N Callow rider of SOUTHERN SWING was advised to show greater care when in similar circumstances.
 
MOTAMAYIZ (GB) – Began awkwardly.
 
 
 
WILD MOON (NZ) – When asked to comment on the performance apprentice K Wilson-Taylor stated that the gelding travelled well until near the 600m and when pressured from that point failed to respond, and was then eased down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of cardiac arrythmia. Trainer L Hatch was advised that an ECG be performed and results furnished to Stewards prior to WILD MOON trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards before being eligible to start in a race again.
 
 
 
 
Race 4: RIVER 949FM Class 1 Plate 1710 metres
 
 
GAELIC – Hampered on jumping. Near the 1400m had to be steadied to avoid heels.
 
KAIBERRY (NZ) – Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground.
 
MAN OF SINN (NZ) – Raced keenly shortly after the start and near the 1400m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of RUBY’S LAD and then continued to overrace until near the 900m.
 
MANHATTAN SPECTOR (NZ) – Hampered on jumping and raced three wide without cover throughout. Weakened over the concluding stages.
 
MASAFF (IRE) – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight before altering course back to the inside near the 200m to secure clear running.
 
RUBY'S LAD – Began awkwardly.
 
ALIGNMENT – Bumped on jumping.
 
POETRY IN MOTION – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
LOVING MISS – Bumped near the 1400m by MAN OF SINN.
 
 
 
 
Race 5: TAB VENUE MODE Class 3 Handicap 1100 metres
 
 
KAVAK – Began awkwardly and shifted in before being restrained to a rearward position.
 
ALL STARS – After being kicked in the off hind leg after arriving at the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Buffeted between runners on jumping.
 
THE FIRST OF MAY – Approaching the winning post laid in away from MISS McKINLEY, and had to be steadied.
 
EMBERS (NZ) – Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping and became unbalanced. Raced three wide without cover throughout and laid in near the 700m.
 
MICK THE HAT – Slow to begin.
 
 
FREYA'S CLOAK – Began awkwardly.
 
ONE SHY RUBY – Held up rounding the home turn and near the 200m shifted back to the inside in an attempt to secure clear running, however was unable to do so and became held up on the heels of EMBERS and went to the line without being fully tested.
 
ISSAQUAH – Near the 700m became unbalanced, had to be steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of KAVAK which was crowded by EMBERS which laid in despite the efforts of its rider.
 
 
Race 6: IPSWICH CUP TIX ON SALE QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 2210 metres
 
 
FORTIFIED (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn before shifting back to the inside near the 200m to secure clear running.
 
PURE DEAL – When asked to comment on the performance jockey C Williams stated that the gelding was once paced and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.
 
MT MORT SHARK (NZ) – Slow into stride. Near the 1200m shifted out to avoid heels.
 
NOTHINSWEETABOUTME – Began awkwardly, shifted out and was bumped on the hindquarters by SINO DEFEAT and became unbalanced.
 
DUNE FORTY FIVE – After being three wide early was allowed to stride forward to obtain the lead approaching the 1200m.
 
KOTABHARU – Raced three wide without cover early before obtaining cover near the 1500m.
 
BUDDY'S TALE – Near the 1200m was forced wider by MT MORT SHARK which shifted out to avoid heels.
 
MISHANI WHISPER – Raced three wide without cover until obtaining cover near the 1200m.
 
PUSHKIN – Raced keenly approaching the 1700m and had to be restrained.
 
SINO DEFEAT – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start.
 
 
 
Race 7: BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1350 metres
 
 
BERNIE'S TIGER – Slow to begin.
 
GOLLY HUTT – Slow to begin.
 
JINX 'N' DRINX – Began awkwardly.
 
UNLEASH THE RED (NZ) – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
MY BLUEWINGS – Raced three without cover throughout.
 
CORVO – After being fractious in the tie-up stalls after arriving on course, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Hampered on jumping. When asked to comment on the performance jockey R Maloney stated that the gelding overraced slightly, raced fresh, travelled well, however when placed under pressure proved disappointing.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained a minor abrasion to the off hind bumper. A post-race swab sample was taken for analysis.
 
 
 
Race 8: RAY WHITE IPSWICH BENCHMARK 80 Handicap 1200 metres
 
 
THINE IS THE POWER – When asked to comment on the seemingly disappointing performance apprentice K Wilson-Taylor stated the mare travelled well but when placed under pressure failed to respond. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Co trainer T Edmonds indicated that in light of today’s performance it may be their intention to retire the mare from racing.
 
ONE STRYKE – Near the 800m when racing in restricted room had to be steadied. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
VOULAIT – Raced wide early before obtaining the lead near the 700m. Laid out on a number of occasions in the home straight and had to be corrected by its rider.
 
FUJI FLYER – Held up between the 400m and 200m, and near the 100m was disappointed for a run and went to line without being fully tested.
 
MASLOW – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to exhibiting a mild cough.
 
SUPERBOWL SUNDAY – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
FASANO – Slow to begin.
 
DIS DAH WUN – Was declared a late scratching at 1.35pm by order of Stewards on veterinary advice after the mare had sustained abrasions to the off hind leg from being fractious in the float en route to the course.
