BUDDY'S TALE – Over-raced in the middle stages. When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer D Corbett reported that BUDDY’S TALE in its first prep had been disappointing over shorter distance. This prep she had altered its training program and had been training the gelding over long distances and presented BUDDY’S TALE very fit for today’s 1900m event.
MADAME GRACE – Near the 500m brushed with BUDDY’S TALE on a number of occasions when attempting to improve. Near 150m bumped with BEAUTIFUL CRAZY. Rider J Murphy reported that the mare travelled reasonably throughout, and in his opinion was unsuited by the slow early pace. He added that when a run presented itself rounding the home turn, the mare failed to quicken as he had anticipated and proved disappointing.

Stewards noted the explanation.
