Race 5: SMW Group 2016 Capricornia Yearling Sale Classic QTIS 2YO Plate - 1200 metres
1st BAGUS 2nd UNCANNY REASON 3rd GENERAL ASSAULT 4th - BENFICA PRINCESS

Prior to the declaration of correct weight trainer P. Butterworth and Apprentice M. McGillivray, (GENERAL ASSAULT), viewed the patrol film. After doing so, they lodged an objection against UNCANNY REASON (Apprentice N. Summers) being declared 2nd. alleging interference from the 200 metrs. After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the patrol video films and acting on their own observations, stewards established that Near the 150 metres UNCANNY REASON laid in, taking GENERAL ASSAULT inwards and in the final stages of the race, when BAGUS (Apprentice B. Grylls) shifted out marginally, no interference was attributable to UNCANNY REASON. After taking into account the margin between the two runners of one length Stewards dismissed the objection.

At the conclusion of this inquiry the trainer of the second place-getter, Mrs L. Peterson, lodged a further objection against the winner, on the grounds of interference over the concluding stages. Stewards established that BAGUS shifted out marginally at the same time as UNCANNY REASON shifted in, and there was marginal contact between both runners. Given the proximity of the incident to the finishing line, and being mindful of the short half head margin between the runners. Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that this incident warranted an alteration to the placings. Accordingly, the protest was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings. Apprentice Summers was reprimanded for failing to stop riding her mount out and straighten.

CHEEKY RED - Slow to begin and then was tightened between runners at the start.
