Supplementary Report

From Ipswich Turf Club, 4.4.19 – Race 7

SICARIO – Following the horse’s failure to finish in this event, trainer C. Rabjones-Tyrell reported that the horse  had undergone an endoscopic examination and was exhibiting signs of pneumonia. He added the horse is currently undergoing treatment and a further endoscopic examination will be performed, with a veterinary certificate of fitness to be provided to stewards.

Race 1: Secure Access I.T. QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1400m

SEARING SPEED – Trainer B. Wakefield was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time. Shifted wider near the 700m to improve and raced wide from that point onwards.

EURO ROCKSTAR – Jumped away awkwardly and made contact with another runner.

TOUGH DECISION – Bumped by another runner on jumping away.

MASSTOO – Overraced when being restrained to obtain cover in the early stages. Jockey J. Orman commented to stewards he was disappointed with the overall performance of his mount. He stated that despite overracing in the early stages the horse travelled comfortably after obtaining cover approaching the 900m, however was disappointing after obtaining clear running shortly after entering the straight. Returned to scale without its near hind plate.

YARBOROUGH – Overraced in the early stages. Raced wide without cover throughout.

FRUEDINKS – Restrained from heels near the 600m, and again improved on to heels near the 400m and had to be restrained before shifting wider on the track to secure clear running.

Race 2: Cricks Sunshine Coast Maiden H’cap – 1800m

On return to scale a protest was lodged by jockey L. Cassidy, rider of the 2nd placegetter, GOTHIC ROMANCE, against SID being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages.  After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards’ patrol video, stewards accepted there was a minor shift from SID at a point near the 80m, which resulted in GOTHIC ROMANCE being shifted slightly wider on the track, however stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that this was sufficient interference to effect the half head margin at the finish. Stewards also accepted that there was contact between the 2 runners as the horses approached the finishing line which was caused by a shift out from SID, however given the close proximity to the winning post, stewards could not be satisfied that this had an effect on the finishing positions.  Stewards therefore dismissed the protest  and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.

ESOR – Slow to begin.

TE RAPA – Raced wide in the early stages.

MISSY MUSKETEER – Raced wide in the early stages.

BACK THE ROCK – Raced wide.

LOVE BITES – When questioned regarding the seemingly  improved performance in winning, trainer Mr G. Hineman indicated he has only had the horse for one previous start and on this occasion the horse was  obliged to settle further back than he would have liked. He added he  instructed jockey M. Hellyer to obtain cover from the wide alley and in order to do so he was obliged to restrain into the second half of the field. He anticipated from barrier one the horse would settle in a midfield position and was somewhat surprised to see it settle behind the lead. He added he had expected a forward showing in today race and was somewhat surprised to see the horse settle behind the lead. He added he had expected a forward showing in today’s  event.

CHAMPAGNE DAISY – When asked to comment on the disappointing performance, jockey R. Maloney  stated the horse travelled well throughout and he was confident the horse was going to finish the face off strongly when leaving the 400m, however when asked for an effort, did not respond to his riding and weakened badly over the concluding stages.   Trainer D. Vandyke confirmed his disappointment in the performance. Stewards advised Mr Vandyke  the horse would be required to officially trial prior to its next race start. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

CLAIRVUE DIAMOND – Trainer S. Kendrick was questioned regarding the improved performance of the horse in winning tonight. He indicated the gelding races best when able to lead without being challenged, as was the case in this event.  Stewards after perusing the horse’s last win accepted the explanation.

Race 5: Qld Timber Flooring Open H’cap -1000m

PUBLISHING POWER – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Raced in restricted room near the 850m. Shifted out to avoid heels near the 700m and then raced in restricted room until approaching the 500m.

THE LAWYER – Slow to begin.

LOTS OF PROMISE – Slow to begin. Shifted out to obtain clear running approaching the 400m and inconvenienced another runner.  Returned to scale with blood in both nostrils. A post race veterinary examination found that the horse had suffered external trauma after being fractious in the barriers and this was the cause of the horse bleeding from both nostrils. Stewards ordered that a veterinary certificate is required for the mare prior to its next start.

THE LAWYER – Was inconvenienced and forced wider approaching the 400m.

NAMO KEKENI – Jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with another runner.

MAGIC PANTHER – Bumped heavily on jumping away.

Race 7: Just Better Care Class 1 Plate – 1400m

The start of this race was delayed due to the significant delay in the previous event.

FRANGIPANI MOON – After being fractious in the barriers jumped away extremely awkwardly, almost dislodging its rider and lost ground. Overraced in the early stages. When asked to comment on the performance of the horse, jockey M. Du Plessis indicated that the horse was very fractious in the enclosure as well as the barriers. He added that  despite being obliged to  settle  at the rear of the field, the horse responded to his riding for a short distance passing the 400m, however commenced to weaken shortly thereafter.

He further stated that following the race  the horse  was making an abnormal respiratory noise.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have a poor post-race recovery. Trainer D.
