Race 1: Carlton United Breweries QTIS 2yo H’cap – 1200m
 
KODAI – Jumped inwards at the start, hampering another runner.
 
MT PETER MISS – Hampered by another runner, which shifted in at the start. Shifted in and away from another runner approaching the winning post, having to be corrected.
 
KICK ONS – Inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 2:Canadian Club QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1200m
 
DESPIRITO – Slow to begin. Steadied near the 800m to avoid the heels of runners in front and shifted out, forcing another runner wider. Held up for clear running for the majority of the home straight.
 
RISING BOOM – Began awkwardly. Was forced wider near the 800m by another runner, becoming awkward on heels, having to be checked.
 
POETIC ATTACK – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
BOOMISTA – Slow to begin. Raced fiercely near the 800m, improving into a doubtful run, forcing another runner wider, which became awkward on heels. Had difficulty obtaining clear running for a short distance leaving the 300m.
 
HOT TOP – Momentarily forced wider near the 800m.
 
TAWHIRI – Hung in under pressure in the home straight, proving difficult to ride out.
 
Race 3: Paynters Maiden Plate – 1300m
 
MAGIC RAY – The start was delayed when rider R. Wiggins requested a veterinary examination.After being examined by the veterinary surgeon, the horse was cleared to start. Slow to begin and then was tightened for room shortly after. Raced wide for the majority of the race.Rider R. Wiggins reported on return to scale that the gelding was awkward in its action and he did not pressure his mount to the finish line.A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be showing minor soreness in the shoulders area.Trainer G. Hughes was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance before the horse would be permitted to race again, and Mr Hughes gave a further undertaking to report to stewardsshould anything come to his attention in the near future that may have had a further bearing on today’s performance.
 
SCHILL ROCK YOU – Slow to begin and shifted out, bumping another runner.
 
LINNET MOON – Slow to begin and bumped by another runner, which shifted out. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
GIVEN TIME – Slow to begin.
 
ZULU TUK – Shifted out approaching the winning post, bumping another runner.
 
DRUMEOUS – Bumped by another runner, which shifted out approaching the winning post.
 
ARTE ET MARTE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
AMERICAN GENERAL – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
 
Race 4: TAB Download The App Class 2 Plate – 1000m
 
CORINTH – Slow to begin.
 
CRISTOVAO – Slow to begin. Steadied from heels near the 600m.
 
TRUST ME GUS – Laid out approaching the 200m before being corrected. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
EGYPTIANBEAR – Rider J. Stanley was questioned into his riding of the mare over the final 200m. Jockey Stanley explained that, in his opinion,the horse was unable to improve any further, and was also mindful that the horse had returned from a short freshen up, which was confirmed by trainer Miss O. Cairns, and for this reason he did not use his usualstrong vigour over the final stages when he was of the opinion that the horse was doing its best.Whilst stewards noted his explanation, he was nevertheless advised not to leave his riding open to question in similar circumstances.
 
Race 5: Brown Brothers Ratings Band 0-65 H’cap – 1609m
 
REAL STING – Slow to begin.
 
CELESTIAL JEWEL – Raced ungenerously in the early stages and made the 1400m turn awkwardly, shifting wider on the track. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
LORD ARCHER – Rider W. D’Avila reported to stewards that it was not his intention to lead on the horse by such a margin, but due to the lack of pace in the race the gelding raced strongly and was reluctant to settledespite his efforts.
 
THE FOX EFFECT – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
LOKUM – Rider J. Stanley was questioned into his riding of the gelding over the concluding stages. Jockey Stanley explained that approaching the winning post BROKEN FINGER shifted in under pressure and was then simultaneously bumped by ARNO BAY, which shifted out under pressure placing LOKUM in restricted room. He further added that as the horse was tiring this placed him in an awkward position and as such he was prevented from riding the horse out with his normal vigour to the end of the race. In viewing the race day film stewards established there was movement from both sides approaching the winning post, and agreed with jockey Stanley’s riding of the gelding in the interest of safety.
 
Race 6: Townsville Turf Club Norther Qld Cup Open H’cap – 1609m
 
VASSAL -Slow to begin.
 
HOT SAGA – Slow to begin.
 
WE JUST LOVE IT – Slow to begin.
 
CRIMSON HALO – Raced ungenerously in the middle stages.
 
THURSTON – Overraced in the early and middle stages of the race.
 
HARDERN – Raced wide in the early and middle stages until improving forward to race outside the leader near the 900m.
 
Race 7: TAB Open H’cap – 1200m
 
DALON – Correct weight was delayed to allow rider B. Thomson, rider of the 2nd placegetter,a viewing of the race to ascertain if she had grounds for lodging an objection against the winner on the grounds of interference in the home straight.After viewing the official film, Miss Thomson did not proceed with an objection, and then wished to view the photo-finish.After viewing the photo-finish, Miss Thomson was satisfied with the Judge’s decision and correct weight was given on the Judge’s semaphored number.
 
Shifted in when being restrained near the 1000m, making contact with the inside running rail. Laid out under pressure in the home straight, and shifted out, brushing another runner on 3 occasions.
 
SEPTIMO – Began awkwardly. Overraced in the middle stages and improved onto the heels of another runner near the 800m, having to be restrained.
 
KENTUCKY FLYER – On returning to scale the gelding was found to have minor lacerations to both hind legs.
 
FASTCAR – Shifted out, bumping another runner on jumping away.
 
GREY MISSILE – Jumped inwards at the start, making contact with another runner. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
CONFRONTING – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
