Race 1 GLEN IRIS STUD CLASS B HANDICAP – 1000 MTRS:
PRIDE OF AFRICA was slow to begin. Shortly after the start MECHANIC shifted out and bumped TSHEPANK onto NOEL ‘N’ PETE resulting in all three runners becoming unbalanced.
Approaching the 600 mtrs DESERT TRIUMPH hung out, became awkward on heels and was checked.
Nearing the 500 mtrs SPECIAL SABRE lay in and crowded MECHANIC which was steadied.
Jockey B MacDonald became ill after the race and after being examined by the clubs medical officer, was stood down for the remainder of the meeting. Jockey MacDonald was instructed to produce a medical clearance before riding again.
Race 2 QRSE ARAMAC TRAMWAY MUSEUM CLASS 6 PLATE 1000 MTRS:
Jockey B Macdonald (Ill) was replaced on DAN’S DE NIRO by L Critoph.
Jockey R Bellert (Zac’s Back) lost his right iron on jumping after jumping awkwardly. When unable to regain his right iron, Jockey Bellert kicked his left iron out nearing the 500 mtrs, placing him at a considerable disadvantage for the remainder of the race.
KALINGA MAGIC was slow to begin.
ZAC’S BACK shifted out nearing the 800 mtrs taking PATHFINDER outwards onto EL BDOOR, resulting in PATHFINDER being steadied.
PLAY ME jumped outwards when released crowding DAN’S DENIRO onto ESSJAYPEE resulting in all three runners becoming unbalanced.
Stewards questioned Jockey B Calkin over the performance of PLAY ME and he stated that the gelding became unsettled in the gates and on jumping shifted out, contacting other runners became unbalanced and was then unable to lead which is his normal pattern of racing. From this point he was off the bit and attempting to chase the leaders. He further stated that on straightening he felt that he was still a chance but when placed under pressure he failed to run on. A post race veterinary examination of PLAY ME revealed no abnormalities and a post race swab was taken.
Race 3 ROAD TEK QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200 MTRS:
Jockey B MacDonald (Ill) was replaced on RIGOUR by App C Prow.
LOCAL BLOKE was slow to begin, along with ALQUO ROSE.
YARNS jumped awkwardly.
LITTLE OUTER LINE began to lose ground quickly from the 400 mtrs when placed under pressure.
Stewards questioned Jockey B Kenning over the performance of WINDMAN and he stated that after jumping well he was obliged to race forward, but showed a distinct disliking to the dirt surface of the track, and never travelled at any stage. He further stated that this had been the gelding’s first start on dirt. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Race 4 JEFF DOLGNER HANDICAP 1200 MTRS:
MILL VALLEY and SWAPPED were late scratchings, due to the unavailability of riders.
UPHOLD was declared a late withdrawal at 2:38pm due to the unavailability of a rider.
LITTLE BIT LIVELY was slow to begin.
PITTAPADDY, DANCING POTTER and LEMON LIME all jumped awkwardly.
PAINTED UP was caught wide during the early stages and restrained shortly after to obtain a position towards the tail of the field.
SNEEZE and DANCING POTTER came together and bumped approaching the 150 mtrs when DANCING POTTER began to shift ground outwards whilst under pressure.
Approaching the 100 mtrs GEBRSELASSIE was momentarily held up when PHONDIL WAY (R Seymour) and WHISKEY BOY (J Foster) both shifted ground. Jockeys R Seymour and J Foster were both instructed to exercise more care in future.
Race 5 CRAIGLEA STUD / MARR’S FURNITURE REMOVALS MATILDA HIGHWAY CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1400 MTRS:
MAREENA LAD and DUCK CREEK GIRL were both declared late withdrawals due to the unavailability of riders.
App C Prow was permitted to ride MAWHOOB 2kg overweight due to the unavailability of riders.
Jockey L Critoph (ROUGHRIDING) was fined $100 under AR 175k for negligently sending out the wrong saddle cloth.
Both LONE RANCHER and ROUGHRIDING jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
Shortly after the start POLISKY began to hang in despite the riders efforts and crowded MAST which was eased. From this point POLISKY continued to hang in crowding ARROWSMITH which was over racing and as a result became awkward on the heels of LONE RANCHER and shifted out, bumping POLISKY. Shortly after SILENT ENCOUNTER began to shift in resulting in BRAVEST OF ALL being crowded onto POLISKY and ARROWSMITH which was still racing ungenerously.
Jockey B Calkin SILENT ENCOUNTER was instructed to exercise more care in future when shifting ground.
Approaching the 200 mtrs ROUGHRIDING was steadied when attempting a run between BRAVEST OF ALL and SPECTOR when both these runners shifted ground.
