Race 1: McClarty Painting Contractors Benchmark 55 Handicap 1000 metres:
1st – SIGNIFICANT CHOICE 2nd – ROSE OF CLARE 3rd – DAZZLUNA 4th – ARMY OF ONE

YOUR WAY OR MINE – Began awkwardly.

Race 2: FNQ Computers Class 2 Handicap 1200 metres:
1st – GUNDY STAR 2nd – AIR OF HEAVEN 3rd – HAD A DREAM

AIR OF HEAVEN and HAD A DREAM – Both broke through the front of the barriers prior to a start being effected, before being quickly restrained by their riders. Both runners underwent a veterinary examination and were passed fit to start.

Race 3: Howlett Plant Hire Class B Handicap 1400 metres:
1st – KANA AKA 2nd – RUNABOUT 3rd – PRESS PLAY 4th – CHRISTMAS VAMPIRE

SEMI SWEET – Crowded at the start.

RUNABOUT – Was inclined to lay out when placed under pressure in the straight.

PRESS PLAY – When questioned jockey W D’Avila explained that he had been instructed to ride the gelding with cover. He said that after beginning fairly he restrained his mount in an attempt to find cover closer to the running rail, however with the slow early tempo the gelding refused to settle and as a result raced three wide throughout. He added that approaching the home turn whilst racing wide he felt that his mount was still a winning a chance and that after being momentarily awkwardly placed on heels shortly after straightening his mount then gained the lead however was inclined to lay in. When questioned as to why he did not allow his mount to stride forward in the early stages in a slowly run race jockey D’Avila stated the he was attempting to comply with his instructions. Trainer Mr R Chillemi confirmed the instructions issued however said that with the benefit of hindsight jockey D’Avila should have allowed his mount to stride forward in the early stages and assume a forward position closer to the running rail in a slowly run race. Their explanations were noted.

Race 4: Landmark & Suppliers Class 6 Plate 1400 metres:
1st – FRENCH LESSON 2nd – JAMALKA 3rd – MANALUTE

FRENCH LESSON – Shifted out abruptly at the start.
