BARCALDINE RACING CLUB STEWARDS REPORT 3/5/2003

STEWARDS PANEL: J Wallis (Chairman), P Anderson, K McCracken (Asst)

WEATHER – Fine TRACK – Good RAIL – True

RACE 1: QTIS Class 1 H'CAP – 1000m
WINARTO reared as the gates opened and lost ground.
OLD HARLEQUIN jumped outwards.

RACE 2: OPEN H'CAP – 1000m
Graham Peacock, the rider of KENTUCKY FLAME, complained that the gates had swung back striking his horse. This was confirmed on the video and the starter advised to check the gates.
S’AMUSER reared and lost ground as the gates opened.
ARAFA shifted out on the home turn and bumped CAPTAIN SKUTTLE causing that horse to bump the hindquarters of VALPECULAR causing that horse to shift in momentarily.
C Prow, the rider of ARAFA, was warned to be more careful in future.
SONIC SWITCH shifted in at about the 100m coming into contact with KENTUCKY FLAME. Apprentice Cameron Browne, the rider of SONIC SWITCH was warned about allowing his mounts to shift under pressure.
After leaving the 100m KENTUCKY FLAME shifted out following SONIC SWITCH which had shifted away. G Peacock, the rider of KENTUCKY FLAME was warned to keep his mounts straight in future.
ARAFA dipped slightly at about the 50m
CAPTAIN SKUTTLE lost an off fore plate during the race.

RACE 3: MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200m
Shane Oates, who was indisposed following a hard ride in race 2, was replaced by T Brummell on LE DAZZLE.
YOUNG LOVER raced greenly over the concluding stages.

RACE 4: CLASS 5 H’cap - 1300m
Nothing to report.

RACE 5: CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1300m
CRAIGLEA LADY was subjected to a veterinary inspection following its run in race 3 and passed to start.
T Austin was replaced on KWILAS CHARM by T Brummell when he was found to be overweight. T Austin fined $50 (AR120(b)).
LORD OF THE BLUES (NZ) was declared a non-runner when its gates failed to open with the others causing that horse to be denied a fair start. All monies were ordered refunded and a deduction of 6c win and 6c place was ordered in accordance with the provisions of the Racing and Betting Act.
As the gates opened IDRIS appeared to overreach and stepped on its near fore heel causing that horse to dislodge its rider. Darren Rewald was not injured in the incident. A veterinary inspection found a minor injury to the near fore heel.

RACE 6: OPEN HANDICAP (Tree of Knowledge Cup) – 1600 m
FOREIGN MONARCH lost ground slightly at about the 650m and had to go wide on the home turn to obtain a run.

WINNERS OF ALL RACES WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
