Race 5 – Trainer B. Gill was fined $200 for failing to enact a gear request in time to permit NAVAL ACTION to race in blinkers.

Race 1: NAB Class 3 Plate 1380m

1st – Challoman 2nd- Mr Magorium 3rd- Angel Place 4th- Metaphysical

As no other rider was available at the allotted weight, stewards permitted S. Bayliss to ride DIAMOND MISTRESS 2kg over weight. A public announcement was made to this effect.

DIAMOND MISTRESS (S. Bayliss) underwent a veterinary examination prior to the race and was cleared to start.

CHALLOMAN (C. Kearney) began awkwardly.

ANGEL PLACE (N. Teeluck) shifted out shortly after the start and made contact with MR MAGORIUM (I. Coombes).

CHALLOMAN and MR MAGORIUM brushed shortly after straightening.

MR MAGORIUM and ANGEL PLACE raced wide the majority of the event.

Stewards sought an explanation from M. Cant regarding KILANTE, which performed below market expectations. He explained that the gelding resented the kick back from today’s surface, however, when placed into clear running in the straight, finished the race of well. He added KILANTE would be better suited on a turf track and in races longer than that of today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 2: Professional Investment Services Class B Handicap 1212m

1st – Get Ditty With It 2nd- Inthanon 3rd- Conyuen 4th- Owie

JEWEL OF CASHEL (J. Johnston) began awkwardly.

OWIE (N. Teeluck) was slow to begin.

KASSMER (S. Bayliss) and GYPSY STORM (M. Cant) raced wide the majority of the event.

S. Bayliss, the rider of KASSMER, reported that the mare did not handle the kickback from today’s surface, and never felt comfortable on the sand track surface.

Stewards sought an explanation from Apprentice J. Johnston, regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of JEWEL OF CASHEL. She stated that the mare was inclined to sit back in the barriers and then put her head down as the barriers opened. Due to this JEWEL OF CASHEL was caught in a trailing position and was not entirely comfortable with the kick back from today’s surface. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 3: Ulton Cup Open Handicap 1090m

1st – White Cap 2nd- Final Crunch 3rd- Sword Of Honour 4th- Once More Brother

SWORD OF HONOUR (C. Kearney) was slow to begin.

FINAL CRUNCH (E. O’Connell) and ONCE MORE BROTHER (I. Coombes) bumped on jumping away.

Race 4: 100F Maiden Plate 1090m

1st – Devil’s Brew 2nd- Gems Tatt 3rd- Bandolier 4th- Cote Du Rhone

DUST THERE (C. Kearney) and DEVIL’S BREW (B. Derbyshire) were slow to begin.

Near the 200m BANDOLIER (J. Johnston) had to be steadied when it hung in across the heels of GEMS TATT (E. O’Connell).

THEATRE PRINCE (S. Bayliss) and DEVIL’S BREW raced wide the majority.

A post race veterinary examination of DUST THERE, which tailed off, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 5: Asteron Class 4 Handicap 1090m

1st – Twogundan 2nd- All Significant 3rd- Calaraben 4th- She’ll Be Dancing

MANDS BOND (M. Cant) stood flat footed at the start and lost ground. Trainer D. Schultz was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

DANE RHYTHM (C. Kearney) was tightened shortly after the start between CALARABEN (I. Coombes) and SHE’LL BE DANCING (E. O’Connell), both of which shifted ground.

ALL SIGNIFICANT (B. Derbyshire) and SHE’LL BE DANCING raced wide the majority of the event.

D. Gill, the rider of TWOGUNDAN, pleaded guilty to charge under AR137A(5)(ii) in that she used her whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. D. Gill’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence immediately and expire at midnight on 28 September 2011. In assessing penalty, stewards were mindful of the significant breach of this rule.
