SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT:

As D. McWhinney was ill and L. Appo was not riding due to transport difficulties, rider replacements were made as per the steward’s summary.

Race 1: Bundaberg Fruit & Vegetable Growers Class B Handicap 1600m
1st – Harrisville Toff 2nd – Grand Turk 3rd – Owie 4th – Tokyo Bob

GRAND TURK (J. Hoopert) shifted out at the start and bumped ZIP ZIP GIRL (C. Kearney) which in turn shifted out and made contact with WILD RUMOURS (L. Dillon).

HARRISVILLE TOFF (K. Gates) which raced wide throughout, laid in under pressure in the straight.

Stewards sought an explanation from L. Dillon regarding the disappointing performance of WILD RUMOURS. L. Dillon stated that the filly usually races on speed, however after beginning awkwardly raced in a rearward position. He added that WILD RUMOURS did not feel comfortable in today’s track conditions and was under pressure from the 800m and proved most disappointing.

Race 2: Suncorp Agribusiness Class 3 Plate 1212m
1st – Noah’s Smile 2nd – Startova 3rd – Calaraben 4th – Magic Turbo

MEAN MACHINE (J. Kropp) was slow to begin.

MAGIC TURBO (D. Gill) raced wide throughout.

CALARABEN (M. McKenzie) hung out in the straight and near the 300m, and again approaching the 100m had to be steadied away from the heels of NOAH’S SMILE (I. Coombes).

M. McKenzie, the rider of CALARABEN, reported that the gelding hung out throughout the event placing him at a disadvantage. Trainer’s representative J. Melvin was advised that a warning would be placed against the racing manners of CALARABEN.

K.Gates reported that STARTOVA laid in under pressure in the straight which resulted in her being unable to fully test her mount out.

CALARABEN lost its off fore plate in running.

Race 3: MRH Lawyers Class 1 Handicap 1090m
1st – Stock Market 2nd – All Significant 3rd – Craiglea Key 4th – Grandeur King

As there was no other apprentice available, stewards permitted I. Coombes as the replacement rider for GRANDEUR KING.

INTHANON (S. Bayliss) began awkwardly and lost ground.

SELECT TRADE (L. Dillon) and KOUNISTRA (J. Hoopert) were slow to begin.

TOOSEXYFORMYSHORTS (M. McKenzie) began awkwardly.

Stewards questioned jockey J. Kropp regarding the performance and the tactics adopted on CRAIGLEA KEY, in particular the reasons for the horse losing ground from shortly after the start until near the 600m, whereby it raced a significant distance behind the main body of the field. J. Kropp stated that his instructions were to ride forward and position the horse outside the leaders. He added that the gelding began awkwardly and he was forced to give his mount a dig to improve, however his mount shifted and dipped in the going and lost ground. He added that once the horse balanced up near the 800m he was able to pressure the horse to improve and near the 600m shifted wider on the track to obtain firmer going. He added that once he found firmer going the horse responded to his riding and finished the race off very well. Trainer D. Gardiner confirmed the instructions and agreed with J. Kropp’s comments that the gelding had failed to handle todays track conditions in the early stages which resulted in the horse losing ground. Stewards noted the explanations.

K. Gates the rider of TANIA’S REVENGE stated that the mare travelled well throughout, however was under pressure on straightening and proved most disappointing. She added that the mare pulled up blowing quiet hard which could have been a result of the horse possibly choking down. Trainer D. Gardiner was at a loss to explain the performance but undertook to advise stewards of any findings in the following days that may explain the performance. A post race veterinary examination of TANIA’S REVENGE revealed some minor lacerations to both hind legs.

Race 4: Austsafe Super Open Handicap 1090m
1st – White Cap 2nd – Frenardi 3rd – Final Crunch 4th – Through The Waves

THROUGH THE WAVES (I. Coombes) was tightened for room shortly after the start between FINAL CRUNCH (M. McKenzie) and FRENARDI (K. Gates) which began awkwardly and shifted out.

M. McKenzie was severely reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on 7 occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 5: The Cheesecake Shop Maiden Plate 850m
1st – Strike a Pose 2nd – Hooded Destiny 3rd – Sympathise 4th – Savannah Gold

Stewards ordered the withdrawal of PAROLAROLLER at 3.15 pm when there was no available rider.

SYMPATHISE (J. Hoopert) shifted in at the start and bumped SAVANNAH GOLD (D. Gill).

DIAMOND MISTRESS (C. Kearney) which began awkwardly shifted out and bumped HOODED DESTINY (M. McKenzie).

STRIKE A POSE (J. Kropp) raced greenly in the early stages and in the straight when placed under pressure.

HOODED DESTINY hung out rounding the home turn.

SAVANNAH GOLD, SUIME ROSE (K. Gates) and COTE DU RHONE (L. Dillon) raced wide throughout.

L. Dillon the rider of COTE DU RHONE which performed below market expectations stated that the performance was not entirely disappointing in considering that the mare was having its first start back from a six month spell. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slower post race recovery.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
