On returning to scale a protest was lodged by Apprentice C Prow the rider of the second horse past the post Game Set Match (NZ) against the first horse past the post Super Talisman (NZ) alleging interference close to the finish line. A further protest was lodged by A Spradau the rider of the third horse past the post Arctic Circle against the first and second horses past the post alleging interference near the 300m. In considering the first protest Stewards believe that whilst Game Set Match (NZ) had to steady the incident happened to close to the line, and therefore dismissed. The stewards were of the opinion in the second protest that whilst Arctic Circle lost ground they believed the majority of the interference came from Super Talisman (NZ) and considering the margin at the finish of 13/4 lengths the protest was also dismissed. Peace Warrior was also hampered in this incident. At a subsequence inquiry F Tsui was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in.
