Approaching the 400m., BALLN LAD was hampered between COLOUR MY WORLD and PLAY THE ACE, both of which shifted ground.

Nearing the home turn, PLAY THE ACE shifted in momentarily and made contact with COLOUR MY WORLD, which resulted in COLOUR MY WORLD becoming unbalanced.

When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of PLAY THE ACE, trainer L. Stubbings stated that at Toowoomba on 23 September, jockey R. Crilley reported that the horse was hampered on 2 occasions during the race and was reluctant to hold its position. Mr Stubbings further added that PLAY THE ACE had worked well since that run and had expected a forward showing by that gelding today.

RACE 5: BEAUDESERT SHIRE COUNCIL H'CAP - 1100M.

For some distance passing the 900m., WICKED SISTER and NAMALLI raced in restricted room. Shortly after, NAMALLI had to be eased off the heels of LIVA LIVA and shifted out, taking HALLETS ROAD, DIFFERENT REASON, COUNT VALOUR and MERINO PARK wider on the track..
Approaching the 150m., MARY JO had to be checked between HALLETS ROAD, which shifted in slightly, and WICKED SISTER, which shifted out under pressure. J. Warrington, rider of WICKED SISTER, was severely reprimanded and advised of his obligations to stop riding and straighten his mounts when the shift ground.

When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on DUNDEE TICKLER, J. Taylor stated he had been instructed to go forward from the start and lead if possible, however after jumping away awkwardly, he elected to restrain his mount early and was obliged to race in a rearward position until approaching the home turn. He added he was then able to gain an inside run in the straight and the gelding ran home strongly. J. Taylor's comments were noted.
