WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD
GENERAL: FROM ITC MEETING, 3.10.01.
SILK ENTANGLES was found to be lame in the near foreleg after competing at the above meeting.

GENERAL: Trainer S. Kumpikas was fined $50 for failing to declare riders for MAKING EXCUSES, EPSOM HAIGE (Race 1), DANEHILL QUEEN (Race 2), SPLENDENT MISSILE (Race 5), WRY LOOK (A. Cowie), TARANTULA (Race 6).
RACE 1: GREAT WESTERN H'CAP - 1650M.
RAVENARTA jumped outwards at the start and made contact with EPSOM HAIGE.
DICEY LADY was slow to begin.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, RAVENARTA commenced to hang off the track and was eventually retired from the event. Trainer M. Brosnan was advised that RAVENARTA would be required to trail satisfactorily in 2 official barrier trials prior to its next race start.
At the 900m., MAKING EXCUSES, which was racing fiercely, had to be checked off the heels of BUNBURRA BOBBY.
Near the 500m., BUNBURRA BOBBY hung and was struck from behind by MAKING EXCUSES, resulting in BUNBURRA BOBBY becoming unbalanced.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of CUDDLIN', C. Whiteley stated that when he endeavoured to restrain the horse to take a trail towards the rear of the field in the early stages, the filly over-relaxed and then had difficulty keeping in touch with the field. He added that CUDDLIN' then failed to run on as expected and in his opinion proved disappointing.
RACE 2: XXXX BITTER H'CAP - 1400M.
M. Ahern was questioned concerning the disappointing performance of PRETTY BUTTERFLY. He stated that after missing the start, the mare was able to obtain a good position in the field, however failed to handle the tight turn and then ran on only fairly in the straight.
RACE 3: HAHN PREMIUM/LIQUOR KING H'CAP - 1200M.
COMIC KING, which was unable to be loaded into the barriers, was declared a late scratching at 2.24 p.m.. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on COMIC KING were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 7 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 8 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time. Trainer A. Nutley was advised that he would be required to produce a further barrier test certificate for COMIC KING prior to its next race start.
EBONYTARI was slow to begin.
STRATEGICAL and OLD FRIENDS made heavy contact on jumping away, and shortly afterwards OLD FRIENDS then had to be checked to avoid the heels of LITTLE CHIP, which shifted out abruptly.
When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on OLD FRIENDS, J. Taylor stated he was instructed to settle the filly where it was comfortable after the start. He explained that after striking interference on jumping away, OLD FRIENDS was unable to muster speed and he was obliged to race at the tail of the field, and then rounding the turn he elected to remain on the fence and endeavor to obtain a run between runners rather than being forced very wide on the track. J. Taylor added that when clear in the straight, the filly ran home very strongly.
RACE 4: JIM BEAM H'CAP - 1200M.
FACETS lost ground at the start after jumping with its head in the air.
Near the 600m., NERANWOOD shifted out and had to be steadied off the heels of VITAL ISSUE.
On the home turn, HOW FRAAR shifted out, taking VITAL ISSUE, MISS ZANARDI and BIDDY wider on the track.
RACE 5: XXXX GOLD H'CAP - 1200M.
At the 700m., MISS BRUNHILDE shifted out and brushed MISCHA, which in turn shifted out abruptly, making contact with AUTUMNWOOD, forcing that runner wider on the track. SPLENDENT MISSILE, which was following, had to be steadied in this incident.
R. Pittman, rider of LEGAL WILL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of FLYING EMAC, which in turn was taken in on to DANIEL'S ARGO, which had to be check when tightened for room between FLYING EMAC and SON OF DAWN. R. Pittman was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 6 October, and to expire at midnight, 17 October 2001.
SECRET HEART was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
DANIEL'S ARGO was briefly hampered when attempting to gain a run to the inside of ALL BLACK ANGEL near the 100m..
RACE 6: XXXX LIQUOR KING CUP - 1400M.
WOAMBRA was slow to begin.
WRY LOOK shifted out on the home turn and hampered MR. IVAN.
RACE 7: LIQUOR KING/UNION SHOPPER H'CAP - 1400M.
CAPTAIN RHETT was slow to begin.
At the 600m., YALLAH CITY shifted in, tightening the running of LET'S RAW and LOOKS LIKE MONEY. M. Dracos, rider of YALLAH CITY, was reprimanded and advised to provide sufficient room to runners on his inside when shifting ground.
Shortly after entering the straight, LOOKS LIKE MONEY shifted out and as a result the saddle shifted to the off side, placing its rider, L. Appo, at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.
RACE 8: BUNDABERG RUM H'CAP - 1100M.
As A. Merritt was indisposed, R. Pittman was substituted as the rider of STUMPY JESTER.
At the 600m., SPLENDID SCORE, which was racing ungenerously, had to be checked off the heels of VAIN HALO.
Approaching the home turn, NERVES OF STEEL had to be checked off the heels of the tiring SAHARA LOCH.
At the same stage, ZELDA had to be checked off the tiring JOLLY'S LUCKY.
Near the 200m., STUMPY JESTER had to be steadied off the heels of SALIENT PRINCE, which shifted in abruptly.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
