GENERAL

As I. French was injured and A. Allen and D. Green were ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: QPS INVESTMENT GROUP MAIDEN H’CAP - 1110m

The start of this race was delayed due to the late arrival of ambulance officers on course.

LIGHTNING DRIFT (S. Fawke) began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly hampering I AM ROGUE (D. McIntosh), OUR LITTLE MISSY (R. Jamieson) and WARRIOR EYES (M. Hellyer). As a result, I AM ROGUE, OUR LITTLE MISSY and WARRIOR EYES lost ground in this incident.

TOP REGULATOR (R. Ride) was slow into stride.

I AM ROGUE and FLOODMARK (K. Yoshida) raced wide throughout.

LIGHTNING DRIFT hung out rounding the home turn and laid in in the home straight.

SCOTCHMAN (S. Drake) shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

Race 2: DYE NATURALLY HAIR STUDIO MAIDEN PLATE - 1400m

Trainer R. Thies was fined $100 for failing to declare M. Hellyer as the rider of TONI’S LUCK by the prescribed time.

The explanation tendered by M. Speers for failing to arrive on course was accepted. Stewards permitted L. Rolls to replace him as the rider of FRIDAY BABY.

As a result of the delay to the start of Race 1, the start of this event was also delayed.

A further delay was caused to the start when SHIRLIELLE refused to load. SHIRLIELLE was declared a late scratching at 2.12 pm. Trainer J. Shelton was advised that SHIRLIELLE must barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next start.

After being loaded, TONI’S LUCK (M. Hellyer) became cast. GEIGER BABY (P. Holmes), which was drawn in the adjoining stall, also became fractious. Both TONI’S LUCK and GEIGER BABY were removed from the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared late scratchings at 2.14 pm on veterinary advice. Trainer R. Thies was advised that TONI’S LUCK must barrier trial satisfactorily prior to being permitted to start. Due to mitigating circumstances, stewards took no action regarding GEIGER BABY other than to place a warning on the horse’s barrier manners. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on TONI’S LUCK, GEIGER BABY and SHIRLIELLE be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

For bets placed prior to 2.12 pm –

52 cents in the dollar for the Win #4
38 cents in the dollar for place of winner #4
40 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #5
37 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #2

For bets placed between 2.12 pm and 2.14 pm –

48 cents in the dollar for the Win #4
31 cents in the dollar for place of winner #4
32 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #5
30 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #2

HIDE THE ACE (S. Drake) overraced in the early stages.

CUBA LIBRE (J. Stanley) was momentarily held up between the 400m and the 300m.

KING OF JACKS (V. Venkaya) raced extremely wide rounding the home turn.

As J. Stanley was stood down by ambulance officers following his ride in this race, M. Hellyer was substituted as the rider of AUDACIOUS AL in Race 7.

Subsequent to this race P. Holmes was stood down from his remaining engagements by ambulance officers and riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 3: ALL BUDGETS WEDDING HIRE QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1200m

As C. Schmidt failed to arrive on course in time, R. Jamieson was substituted as the rider of DRAGON MASTER. C. Schmidt was fined $100 for failing to fulfil her riding engagement.

TEX ‘N’ ESTHER (J. Morris) was slow into stride.

SHEZAPROSPECT (A. Pattillo) hung out rounding the home turn.

CHARLIE’S MOMENT (R. McMahon) was steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of NADA TO PRADA (S. Fawke), which hung out rounding the home turn.

A. Pattillo reported that SHEZAPROSPECT wanted to hang out from leaving the 700m.

Race 4: DONNELLY BLASHING BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1050M

LITTLE MRS MURPHY (C. Small) blundered on jumping away.

FEELING NAUGHTY (J. Morris) began awkwardly, shifted out and hampered AMBER ALE (R. McMahon).

KATIKA (D. McIntosh) was tightened on jumping away between AMBER ALE (R. McMahon) and FEELING NAUGHTY (J. Morris), which began awkwardly and shifted out.

DAYTIME DAZZLER (R. Johnston-Bell) laid out rounding the 600m turn and as a result was eased away from the heels of FEELING NAUGHTY.

Race 5: RYAN’S ELECTRICAL CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1650M

As P. Holmes was to be overweight on FAIRY GREEN and on KYLIE EM (Race 7), A. Merritt was substituted as the rider of both runners. P. Holmes was fined $300.

MANN MAGIC was a late scratching at 1.15 pm on veterinary advice that the horse had sustained an injury en route to the course.

TOBORAIGH STAR (V. Venkaya) began awkwardly.

SPANISH SMILE (K. Stanley) was slow to begin.

Apprentice R. Jamieson, the rider of MANCHEBO, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching and passing the winning post she permitted her mount to shift in when making insufficient effort when not sufficiently clear of SNOW CHOICE (S. Drake), causing that runner to be tightened inwards on to ROMAN WATERS (M. Hellyer), resulting in SNOW CHOICE having to be checked. Apprentice Jamieson’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Sunday 1 September and expire at midnight on Wednesday 11 September 2013. A short distance after this incident ROMAN WATERS shifted out, forcing SNOW CHOICE across the heels of MANCHEBO.

SNOW CHOICE and ROUSSOS DESTINY (C. Schmidt) raced wide during the middle stages.

SPANISH SMILE was momentarily held up for clear running on entering the straight and shortly after was obliged to shift back in in order to improve.

Race 6: CRT RURAL SUPPLIES CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200M

Trainer M. Palmer reported that BRONCO (R. McMahon) had previously had a throat operation, however the horse has been treated during the week for throat symptoms but he still expects a forward showing.

FULL ON BY (R. Jamieson) and OUTBACK GRANDE (T. Wolfgram) bumped on jumping.

EDDIE BIDDER BOY (S. Fawke) began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with I AM BUT A FOOL (A. Pattillo).

EDDIE BIDDER BOY overraced in the early stages, obliging the rider to allow the gelding to stride forward and race outside the leader.

FULL ON BY raced wide throughout.

EDDIE BIDDER BOY faltered badly in the home straight and was then eased out of the event by its rider. In this incident I AM BUT A FOOL, which was following, was held up when awkwardly placed at the heels of that runner and had to alter course outwards inside the final 100m to obtain clear running. A subsequent veterinary examination of EDDIE BIDDER BOY revealed that it had fractured its near hind fetlock. EDDIE BIDDER BOY was euthanased on humane grounds.

Race 7: HAACK GROUP OF COMPANIES CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M

Correct weight was delayed to allow M. McKenzie, the rider of CARRY THE DRINKS, and B. Newport, the rider of SHADOWY PAST, which were declared equal first place by the Judge, the opportunity of viewing the photo finish. As both riders were satisfied with the Judge’s decision, stewards declared correct weight on the semaphored numbers.

POPSTAR PETE (J. Morris) was slow into stride.

Near the 700m KYLIE EM (A. Merritt) momentarily shifted in, resulting in AUDACIOUS AL (M. Hellyer) having to steady away from that runner’s heels and in doing so shifted out.

CALL ME COBBER (M. Crawford) raced wide throughout.

Near the 400m KYLIE EM was eased when tightened for room between CALL ME COBBER and SIR BLAZE (S. Drake), which shifted out in order to improve. S. Drake was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

AUDACIOUS AL (M. Hellyer) lost its near hind plate in running.
