Race 1: XXXX MAIDEN PLATE – 1650M
The start was delayed when HIDE THE ACE fell and dislodged its rider J. Orman during the preliminary. On arrival at the barriers HIDE THE ACE was examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 1.20 pm. Trainer H. Bown was advised that a warning would be placed on the pre-race manners of HIDE THE ACE. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on HIDE THE ACE be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to scratching time:
3 cents in the dollar for the Win #5
5 cents in the dollar for place of winner #5
4 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #6
4 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #7
Correct weight was delayed to allow B. El-Issa, the rider of 2nd placegetter HARNILIAM to view the stewards’ patrol footage to determine whether he had grounds on which to lodge an objection against the winner CLANGORANDA (S. Drake) rounding the home turn. After viewing the video, jockey El-Issa indicated that he did not wish to proceed with an objection and correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored.
THE BETTER HARV (N. Tomizawa) shifted out at the start, making contact with ROUGH AND RECKLESS (I. Coombes), which in turn shifted out making contact with CLANGORANDA. As a result of this incident, UNDIAMO (B. Grylls) was then tightened for room between CLANGORANDA and HARNILIAM (B. El-Issa).
MUMBLE BEE (T. Harrison) was slow to begin.
ROCKIN’ DUDLEY (D. Missen) and NAUTICAL LAD (A. Spinks) bumped on jumping away when both horses shifted ground.
Both CLANGORANDA and ROUGH AND RECKLESS overraced in the early stages and made the turn out of the straight on the first occasion awkwardly. ROUGH AND RECKLESS then continued to overrace for some distance.
Near the 1000m ROCKIN’ DUDLEY became unbalanced and shifted out, forcing KOBI CREEK (T. Treichel) wider on the track.
KOBI CREEK raced wide in the early stages.
UNDIAMO raced wide for the majority of the event.
Leaving the 600m ROCKIN’ DUDLEY improved on to the heels of THE BETTER HARV and when being steadied was taken wider by PURE SENSE.
MUMBLE BEE was held up on heels and unable to improve from leaving the 300m until entering the home straight.
Race 2: QPS INVESTMENT GROUP MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M
MASTER KWILA (N. Tomizawa) stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer B. Golinski was advised that MASTER KWILA must obtain 2 further barrier certificates prior to being permitted to start again.
KILZAYRE (F. Elliott), which was fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin.
GALLIVANTING (T. Williams), which was slow to begin, was further inconvenienced when tightened for room between DUBLING (M. Vance) and OTIMO (T. Treichel), which shifted out.
HIGHLAND CRUISING (B. Grylls) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with TERETINA (B. Ainsworth).
Near the 1000m HIGHLAND CRUISING shifted in, bumping MORE THAN SUPERB (J. Missen) and commenced to race ungenerously and when being steadied, shifted out becoming awkward on the heels of TERETINA which shifted in slightly. TERETINA then commenced to overrace and near the 700m improved on to the heels of MAZZARINO (G. Colless) and shifted out, inconveniencing DUBLING, DINKY DESTINY (C. Jokic) and GALLIVANTING.
DINKY DESTINY raced wide in the early stages.
DUBLING and GALLIVANTING raced wide throughout.
Leaving the 300m MAZZARINO and OTIMO had to be momentarily steadied when crowded for room by TREVLYN’S COL (S. Drake), which shifted in when tiring.
DUBLING hung in under pressure in the home straight.
Trainer K. Hickmott was advised that nomination of KILZAYRE, which trailed the field throughout, would be refused at TAB meetings until such time as the horse shows improved performance at country meetings. A post-race veterinary examination of KILZAYRE revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg. Mr Hickmott was advised that he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for KILZAYRE before it is permitted to start again.
Race 3: BEAUDESERT HOTEL RATINGS BAND 0-62 H'CAP – 1400M
Trainer M. Brosnan was fined $100 for failing to declare S. Galloway as the rider of ALIMONY by the prescribed time. As S. Galloway was already engaged to ride DON’T TELL CYRIL, G. Colless was subsequently declared as the rider of ALIMONY.
Connections advised that BIG KEN THE CELT (J. Orman) would be ridden in a more forward position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
SIR BLAZE (S. Drake) began awkwardly and lost ground.
SPURRING SPIRIT (N. Evans) was slow to begin.
EASYAYE (T. Treichel) began awkwardly.
When being steadied leaving the 1000m to allow DEMIVAL (J. Greacen) to go to the lead, DON’T TELL CYRIL (S. Galloway) then shifted out forcing ALIMONY (G. Colless) wider on the track. ALIMONY was then obliged to race three wide for the remainder of the event.
When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on DEMIVAL today, trainer T. Crane advised that as it was the mare’s first run for his stable and as the horse had been slow to begin previously, it was the intention to have the horse ridden in an aggressive manner and with the addition of blinkers back on today the horse raced further forward than at its previous starts. Whilst stewards noted that it was the horse’s first start for his stable, Mr Crane was reminded of his obligations to advise stewards should there be a change in riding tactics in future. Mr Crane further added that in view of today’s performance, the horse’s current racing preparation will be reviewed. A post-race veterinary examination of DEMIVAL revealed lameness in the near foreleg. Connections were advised that DEMIVAL will require a veterinary clearance before being permitted to race again.
Race 4: BEAUDESERT SOFT DRINKS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1650M
Trainer L. Richardson was fined $100 for failing to declare apprentice B. Ainsworth as the rider of KING OF THE BAY by the prescribed time.

MILLENIUM PARK (M. Hellyer) was slow to begin.
LUCK’S ON OUR SIDE (J. Missen) and CHEEKYBOI (F. Elliott) were tightened for room on jumping away between DANISH LASS (J. Greacen) and SINGARAJA (K. Yoshida), both of which shifted ground.
SINGARAJA raced wide until a point leaving the 1000m before improving forward to race outside the leader.
Leaving the 600m CHEEKYBOI attempted to shift wider on the track to improve and in doing so made contact with SIR SQUIGGLE (T. Treichel) on two occasions.
