GENERAL:
As a number of trainers were unable to declare riders by the prescribed time due to technical issues, all changes were made as per Stewards summary sheet.

Race 2 INAMINKA HOTEL/BIRDSVILLE HOTEL/IOR ENERGY CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200m.

Trainer T. Austin reported that following the disappointing performance of SYLVAN SAFARI in the subsequent days he was unable to detect any abnormalities and that the gelding had pleased him in its track-work leading up to today’s race. This information was broadcasted via on course media.


Race 1: – BROOKLANDS- FRED BROPHY QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M
1st – SUNTRICE 2nd – JUBILATE 3rd – EXQUISITE DIAMOND 4th – CARNATION REEF

As A. Spradau failed to arrive on course he was replaced by C. Spry as the rider of SAVARANA. A. Spradau will be interviewed at a later date into the reasons he failed to fulfil his engagement.

MEDWIN (T. Brummell) and SAVARANA (C. Spry) were slow to begin.

EXQUISITE DIAMOND (G. Geran) began awkwardly.

Leaving the 700m CARNATION REEF (K. Ballard) had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of JUBILATE (D. Rewald)

A post race veterinary examination SARAVANA which performed below expectations revealed the horse to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer J. Morris was advised that he must provide a veterinary certificate of soundness before the horse is permitted to race or trial again.

A post race veterinary examination of MEDWIN revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer G. Schrader was advised that he must provide a veterinary certificate of soundness before the horse is permitted to race or trial again.


Race 2: COCA COLA CLASS B HANDICAP – 1000M
1st – ONLY LOOKING 2nd – ZAHA’S GEM 3rd – KASHINITE 4th – IMA GENERAL

LIKE CLOCKWORK (C. Gilby) stood flat footed at the start and lost considerable ground. G. Tipping, the trainer of LIKE CLOCKWORK was advised that a warning would be placed on that horse’s barrier manners.

NO OTHER WAY (D. Rewald) and ZAHA’S GEM (K. Ballard) began awkwardly.

HE’S A GARRISON (C. Kearney) jumped out at the start inconveniencing CAPITOL HILL (S. Galvin).

CAPITOL HILL which raced wide for the majority had a tendency to hang out in the early and middle stages of the race.

NO OTHER WAY which hung out in the middle stages shifted out near the 600m and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of KASHINITE (A. Pattillo).

BANKERS TRUST (B. Richardson) and FIGHTING DEMONS (G. Geran) raced wide for the majority of the race.

K. Ballard, the rider of ZAHA’S GEM reported that as a result of beginning awkwardly he struck his left foot on the barrier gate on jumping away.

Race 3: BIRDSVILLE HOTEL CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1200M
1st – EMBELLISHING 2nd – SPECIAL AURA 3rd – DESERT LAIR 4th – REMEDIA

PURE PRINCE (C. Gilby) began awkwardly.

MAD ESSJAY (A. Pattillo) hung out and raced ungenerously for a short distance near 1000m.

LUCKY DOLL (D. Rewald) raced wide in the early stages of the race.

Race 4: CARLTON MID CUP OPEN HANDICAP – 1000M
1st – LARRY’S SONG 2nd – SHOREPHIL 3rd – CRAIGLEA TUNES 4th – HEADLIGHT


CRYSTAL TIGER (K. Ballard) was slow to begin.

MONTANUS (W. Doyle) blundered on jumping away.

Leaving the 800m HEADLIGHT (D. Ballard) had to be checked and lost ground when tightened for room when racing between MONTANUS and MANNERS PLEASE (D. Rewald) which shifted out abruptly when taken out across the heels of LARRY’S SONG (A. Pattillo) when taken wider by SHOREPHIL (M. Webber) which commenced to race ungenerously and shifted out. As stewards deemed no one rider at fault, no further action was taken.

CRYSTAL TIGER hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

CRAIGLEA TUNES (S. Galvin) raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 5: SKYTRANS CLASS 3 PLATE – 1400M
1st – NO SHACKLES 2nd – HAPPY NOW 3rd – PUFFED 4th – GREENHIDE

AUTUMN BEATS (S. Galvin) was slow to begin.

PUFFED (C. Gilby) shifted in near leaving the 600m making contact with GREENHIDE (C. Dixon).

D. Rewald, the rider HAPPY NOW was fined the sum of $100.00 under AR137A (5) (a) (ii) in that he used his whip on more than five occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.

Race 6: BIRDSVILLE FUEL SERVICES CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 1200M
1st – CHEMIN DE MARC 2nd – GREY DRAGON 3rd – DANCEFLOOR PRODIGY 4th – AUDIOLA

ALL ROYAL (S. Galvin) began awkwardly.

MASTER DANNY (M. Webber) threw its head in the air on jumping away and raced wide for the majority of the race.

CHEMIN DE MARC (D. Ballard) which raced wide for the majority of the race hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

D. Ballard, the rider CHEMIN DE MARC was reprimanded under AR137A (5) (a) (ii) in that he used his whip on more than five occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100m. In considering penalty Steward’s took into account D. Ballard had no previous breach under this rule.
