SUPPLEMENTARY

Race 5: Top Produce Class B Handicap- 1517 metres
Trainer R. Vagg reported BELLA PRINCIPESSA was lame in the near fore fetlock on cooling down and would now be spelled.
Apprentice C. Pye (SHEER OPULENCE) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 137A (5)(a)(ii) in that she used the whip prior to the 100m in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions. In consideration of penalty, Stewards were mindful this was Apprentice Pye’s first offence and imposed a fine of $200. Apprentice Pye was cautioned for use of the whip in consecutive strides.

Track-work Rider G. Roginson was fined $50 under LR 12A for smoking while on a horse.
GENERAL
Stewards permitted CAN’T BE TOLD (R1), BLACK ROSE (R2) and MANU PERU (R4) to race partly shod. Trainer N. King was reprimanded under AR 141A in that horses trained by her were not plated to an acceptable standard and advised of the requirements under AR 141B.
Trainer N. King was directed to ensure that persons employed by her have appropriate footwear when present in the enclosure and in the vicinity of the race day stalls.
2 riders at this meeting delivered urine samples as directed by Stewards.
Race 1: Curragh Queensland Mining Class 2 Handicap- 1000 metres
1st – CAN’T BE TOLD 2nd – BILLKAY 3rd – ABINDAH 4th – SIODEE
As no saddlecloths were on course to be used, Stewards put this race back one hour to start at 2.30pm and subsequent races to start at 30 mins intervals (Race 5 4.30pm)
ABINDAH (N. Patchett) was slow to begin.
On return to the enclosure, it was observed ABINDAH had a minor wound to it off fore cannon.
Race 2: QTIS Maiden Plate - 1000 metres
1st – STACCATO 2nd – DANCING RHYTHM 3rd – GREENVALE GIFT 4th – DUBAI TOWN
The explanation tendered by Trainer N. King in relation to the late declaration of rider for BLACK ROSE was accepted by Stewards, as no rider was available at the weight of 54kg at the time of jockey declaration
BLACK ROSE (S. Evans) was fractious in the barrier prior to the start.
BLACK ROSE and DUBAI TOWN (R. Mules) were slow away.
SURE OF HEART (D. Simmons) blundered at the start.
BLACK ROSE commenced to over-race in the early stages and at approximately the 800 metres, was steadied from the heels of SURE OF HEART and shifted out wider on the track. At approximately the 600 metres the filly, which continued to over-race, had to be restrained from the heels of DUBAI CELEBRATION (N. Patchett).
Jockey S. Evans reported BLACK ROSE raced greenly throughout.
In relation to the performance of SURE OF HEART, Jockey Simmons explained the mare began fairly and when placed worst than midfield, resented the dust and failed to travel well for the remainder. He further stated the mare was first up from a spell today and would appreciate races over more distance.
Following this race, Jockey D. Simmons and N. Patchett addressed Stewards in regard to reduced visibility from dust when racing back in field. Stewards spoke to the Club regarding this issue and, while unable to rectify today, a water truck would be used between races for future meetings.
Race 3: QR National/ Robbie Haynes Memorial Open Handicap- 1100 metres
1st – JYI’S PROSPECT 2nd – FROG 3rd – RUBY FRISCO 4th – STOUTFAST
A post-race veterinary examination of INCINERATOR revealed mild lameness in the off foreleg. Stewards will follow-up with Trainer W. Pomfrett in regard to the condition of INCINERATOR.
Trainer T. Button reported STOUTFAST had lost its off-fore plate in running.
Race 4: Curragh Queensland Mining Class 4 Handicap- 1200 metres
1st – MANDS BOND 2nd – REGAL MOUNTAIN 3rd – DREAM WARRIOR 4th – LET’S GO BONGO
MANDS BOND (N. Patchett) was slow to begin.
At approximately the 1000 metres, REGAL MOUNTAIN (App. C Pye) shifted in slightly when being restrained and SUTTON CHIEF (S. Evans) which was following was steadied.
At approximately the 600m, MANU PERU (P. Randall) commenced to yield ground and was retired from the event at approximately the 300m and failed to finish. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be sore in the near foreleg. Stewards advised Trainer N. King that a full veterinary examination must be furnished for MANU PERU and the mare must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to its next race start.
Stewards will inquire into the whip action of Jockey N. Patchett.
Race 5: Curragh Queensland Mining Class B Handicap- 1200 metres
1st - KYNISKA LASS 2nd – OUR BRUISER 3rd – OCCLO 4th – CANNDIVA
DRAKE’S PASSAGE and TOMISLAV were declared late scratchings at 8.15am due to no available rider.
MIRANDIZE (N. Patchett), which was standing awkwardly in the barrier, was slow to begin, lost significant ground and raced ungenerously for a short distance afterwards.
KYNISKA LASS (D. Simmons) was slow to begin and lost ground (4L) at the start.
At approximately the 250 metres, OCCLO (R. Hall) shifted out under pressure and CANNDIVA (M. Barnham) became held up for clear running for a short distance.
Stewards will inquire into the use of the whip by Jockey D. Simmons.
