STEWARDS REPORT
BOWEN TURF CLUB
SATURDAY 2ND OCTOBER 1999

Stewards: AF Cooper (Chairman), M Braunberger, J McIntosh, DG Chappell, B Chester-Master
Weather: Fine Track: Fast.

RACE 1 MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 METRES 9 STARTERS
At the start: OSMOSIS (A Molino) was fractious and slow into stride. FLIGHT OT BERMUDA (R Mule)
Jumped outwards colliding with FLEET ATTACK (App M Guthrie). SANDETTE (M Young) on jumping away, collided with KELLING DRIVE (C Lennon) who continued to lay in on SENDETTE and lose ground. Jockey G Watson was dislodged from his mount BORNEO BOY leaving the enclosure, no injury to horse or rider.

RACE 2 CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 10 STARTERS
Jockey C Lennon replaced P Cullen as the rider for ZEPHYR BITE.
BATTLER’S SCOOP (B Trinder) proved difficult to load and became fractious in the stalls, and fractured the off fore sesamoid. The Gelding was removed from the course under Veterinary Supervision. An Inquiry was held into an incident approaching the 850 mark. After hearing evidence and viewing the Video Film, Jockey S Hetherington was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to move when insufficiently clear of JACK O’FAIRWAYS (S Watkin) who in turn shifted ground onto MATINEE MAN (d Whitmore) resulting in ZEPHYR BITE (C Lennon) having to ease. BUNI BROWN (G Watson) lost considerable ground when the start was effected.

RACE 3 OPEN HANDICAP 1100 METRES 9 STARTERS
Jockey G Watson was the replacement rider for CROPTHORNE when the declared rider P Cullen was unable to make the weight.
Jockey M Young reported that MR THOMAS was inclined to hang from the 600 to the home turn.

RACE 4 CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1470 METRES 12 STARTERS
REGAL RACER (B Trinder) returned to scale lame in the near fore. EXPLAIN (A Molino) had to be eased near the 400 to avoid the heels of NEXT IN LINE (S Watkin).

RACE 5 QRIS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 11 STARTERS
Jockey B Trinder replaced M Young as the rider for BOWEN’S TORNADO.
An Inquiry was conducted into an incident near the 800 mark. Having regard to the evidence and viewing the Video film, no action was contemplated as the stewards were of the opinion that the interference was the result of SHY TALK (A Molino) lay in onto STAR BARON (App M Guthrie) who in turn was unable to relieve the pressure applied to BOWEN’S TORNADO (B Trinder)

RACE 6 CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1800 METRES 11 STARTERS
Jockey S Watkin was the replacement rider for ROCKO (NZ) as the declared rider C Beets had been injured at track work. Stewards inquired into the reason why INNUENDO (S Hetherington) and STARWOOD (R Mules) were forced to race wide going out of the straight to the 1400 mark. Jockey r Mules the rider of STARWOOD stated that IRISH MUSIC (P Cullen) had failed to negotiate the turn and this resulted in INNUENDO being forced out onto STARWOOD. Stewards will continue to monitor the behaviour of IRISH MUSIC as to whether the gelding should be required to Barrier Trial.
Stewards questioned Jockey C Lennon regarding his claim to the connections of JACKPAT that the gelding had suffered interference on the home turn. After perusal of the Video Film, Jockey Lennon conceded that no such interference had occurred.

All winners were sent to be swabbed.
