Race 1: Brown Bros Milk Supply/BP Merinda QTIS Handicap- 1000 metres
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by A Payne regarding the late declaration of App. J. Kuskopf as the rider for TALLAGANDRA LASS.
Stewards also accepted the explanation tendered by P Fleming regarding the late declaration of rider for VIRGINIA FALLS.
The start of the race was delayed when TALLAGANDRA LASS (J Kuskopf) dislodged its rider whilst proceeding to the barriers. App. J Kuskopf was not injured in this incident. TALLAGANDRA LASS was captured after galloping a considerable distance. After arriving at the barriers TALLAGANDRA LASS was inspected by the Veterinary surgeon and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1.42pm. Stewards ordered that all bets made on TALLAGANDRA LASS be refunded and that the following deductions apply to successful wagers placed prior to 1.42pm:
2 cents in the dollar for the Win #2
4 cents in the dollar for the Place of winner #2
9 cents in the dollar for the 2nd Place #1
12 cents in the dollar for the 3rd Place #10
DICHOTOMY (S Cooke) jumped awkwardly.
CRAIGLEA CELICA (A Lawrence) was slow away.
Approximately the 700m CRAIGLEA OPAL (C Pye) was tightened for room between CRAIGLEA KOLAN (P Cullen) and TRIVIAL (A Dykes) which resulted in CRAIGLEA OPAL losing ground.
Stewards spoke to C Pye regarding her use of the whip on CRAIGLEA OPAL when not in contention.
A post raced Veterinary examination of CRAIGLEA OPAL revealed no abnormalities.
Race 2: Stone’s Diamond Jewellers/S W Crane Hire Class B Handicap- 1000 metres
MOLONGLE DASH (C Pye) and CRAIGLEA ZETA (A Lawrence) were both slow away.
ERNEST ALBERT (E Ljung) raced wide throughout.
Stewards spoke to Jockey I Toward regarding the seemingly poor performance of FRA DIABLO. Jockey Toward stated the gelding did not feel comfortable on the hard surface and believed that this could of contributed to the poor performance. He further added that FRA DIABLO was inclined to hang out from approximately the 800m. A Post race veterinary inspection revealed FRA DIABLO to have some slight bruising to its off fore cannon bone. Stewards will speak with Trainer S Hoffman during the week in regards to the current preparation of FRA DIABLO.
Race 3: Arabon Seafoods/Schweppes Open Handicap- 1200 metres
Stewards spoke to Trainer A Cameron regarding the scratching of TYSON RULES. He stated that the horse had become cast in its box and had injured its near hind leg. An inspection of the gelding by Stewards confirmed the injury.
Trainer A Cameron advised stewards that DUX BELLORUM (A Dykes) would be ridden without use of the whip as per its previous starts. Announcements were made to this effect.
No racing incidents.
Race 4: Visyboard/Landmark Benchmark 65 Handicap- 1280 metres
CABJA KID (D Simmons), ZEDI WARRIOR (E Ljung), and FORTZA (A Lawrence) all raced wide throughout.
Race 5: XXXX Gold Bowen Cup Benchmark 70 Handicap- 1810 metres
Trainer D Symons was fined $100 under LR. 44 for failing to provide a letter of authority to his representative.
BRANDY BEAU (M Cullen) jumped in the air at the start and was slow away.
TEDDY BARE (C Pye) raced wide for the majority of the event.
