TOWERS JOCKEY CLUB INC STEWARDS REPORT SATURDAY 22/03/03.STEWARDS PANEL: R.C.SMITH (Chairman), D.GRIFFITHS .WEATHER - FINE & HOT, - TRACK, - (Dirt), FAST - RAIL -TRUE

RACE 1 MAIDEN HANDICAP - 800 Metres.
Jockey M.SEAGREN was reprimanded for coming to the scale to weigh out when not in possession of all of her riding gear. EDUCATOR, (P.CULLEN) was slightly slow to leave the starting gates. NIGHTS OF GLORY, (S.SIMON) hung out when negotiating the home turn.
RACE 2: CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1000 Metres
When weighing out Jockey M.SEAGREN was observed to be not in possession of all of her riding gear. Jockey W.KENNING replaced M.SEAGREN on DON’T SMOKE when Jockey SEAGREN could not make the allocated weight. At a subsequent Inquiry Jockey SEAGREN pleaded Guilty to contravening AR 120 (b) -(accepting ride when overweight), and was suspended from riding in races for a period of one month to commence at midnight on 22/03/03 up to and including 22/04/03. She was also found Guilty of contravening AR 175(a) -(Dishonest action to deceive the Clerk of the Scales by deliberately weighing out with only 1 stirrup iron), and was suspended from riding in races for a period of one month to commence at midnight on 22/03/03 up to and including 22/04/03. The two penalties were ordered to be served concurrently. At the start GOODBYE BLUES (J.STOPPS) blundered badly and shifted in, tightening DON’T SMOKE (W.KENNING) and FLYING CLEAR (L.CRITOPH). Making the turn at around the 500 metre mark CEDAR LANE (Apprentice S.KAVANAGH) got its head into the air and raced ungenerously. At about the 50 metre mark CANNIO (S.SIMON) brushed DON’T SMOKE (W.KENNING). GOODBYE BLUES was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who reported the horse had suffered a laceration to the off side flank.

RACE 3: WEIGHT FOR AGE - 1200 Metres.
Between the 1000 metres and the turn out of the back straight ARGOLD, (P.CULLEN) was inconvenienced and lost ground as the result of DEVIL’S DEN (L.CRITOPH) who was travelling in front of and to the outside of ARGOLD moving in on several occasions . At an Inquiry Jockey L.CRITOPH was found Guilty of contravening AR 137(a) by riding in a careless manner by allowing DEVIL’S DEN to shift in when not clear of ARGOLD. Jockey CRITOPH was suspended from riding in races for a period of three meetings to commence at midnight on 22/03/03 and upto and including 04/04/03. Around the 100 metre mark MISTER OBLIGING (W.KENNING) shifted in and crowded DEVIL’S DEN (L.CRITOPH). Trainer T.BUTTS was question in relation to the nomination and acceptance and then scratching of SONDRA in this event. Trainer BUTTS’ explanation was noted. Trainer M. ATTARD of Mackay, the trainer of Chief BULLI which also accepted in Mackay for today was also interviewed by Steward Mr. G.HARGRAEVES in Mackay regarding the acceptance and then scratching of CHIEF BULLI in this event today and his explanation noted.

RACE 4: GOLD ‘N’ REEF SERIES CLASS 5 HANDICAP - 1200 Metres.
Near the 1000 metres, NO RESPECT (P.CULLEN) shifted in and inconvenienced IRISH REIGN (M.SEAGREN) who in turn was taken in onto TOP KNOCK (L. CRITOPH) which was checked and lost ground and as a consequence GRISMA (S.SIMON) was also crowded. . At an Inquiry Jockey P. CULLEN was found Guilty of contravening AR 137(a) by riding in a careless manner by allowing his mount NO RESPECT to shift in when not clear near the 1000 metres. P. CULLEN was suspended from riding in races for a period of three meetings to commence at midnight on 25/03/03 and up to and including 05/04/03.

RACE 5: CLASS 6 PLATE - 1400 Metres.

At the 1000 metres,QUICK HELLO (P.CULLEN) hung out and lost ground. Jockey M.SEAGREN advised that her mount OHKAY blundered at about the 600 metres after striking a soft patch on the track. Trainer T.SNELLING was instructed to replace the reins used on the horse REDWAY (S.SIMON) as they were well worn.

RACE 6: CLASS 3 PLATE - 1400 Metres.FAVOURITE BLEND and PRINCE EAGLE who had both started in races earlier in the day were examined by Veterinary Surgeon prior to this event and passed fit to contest this race. The start was delayed when BELL ROAD (A.COX) after being loaded into the Barrier became fractious and kicked out. After being taken out of the Barrier and passed fit to start by the Veterinary Surgeon BELL ROAD then refused to load into the Barrier and was a late scratching at 5.15 p.m. Bookmakers were ordered to draw a line on their ledgers. At the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets made above the line prior to the withdrawal of BELL ROAD be paid less.27 c Win and .25 c Place. Trainer P CHAMBERLAIN (BELL ROAD) was advised that he would have to obtain a Barrier Certificate for BELL ROAD before the mare will be again permitted to start. SEEJAR (S.SIMON) was slow to leave the starting gates. At about the 1200 metre mark whilst returning to the enclosure after the race had been completed, PRINCE EAGLE, (Apprentice S.KAVANAGH), blundered and fell, dislodging S.KAVANAGH who suffered some injuries and was treated by Ambulance Officers ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED. GENERAL. An Inquiry was held into an incident on 20/03/03 which resulted in Trainer H. PEEBLES pleading Guilty to contravening AR 175(J) (Insulting Behaviour Towards an Official). He was fined $100.00.
