CHICKA SIERRA was declared a late scratching at 9.20am due to no available rider.

The start was delayed as CAPETIAN was unable to be loaded. Stewards declared CAPETIAN a late scratching at 2.15pm. Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on CAPETIAN be refunded, and that all bets made with bookmakers be paid less the following deductions; 8 cents in the dollar win and 9 cents the place. Stewards advised Trainer C. Williams that the gelding would be required to pass 2 barrier jumpouts prior to its next race start. Mrs. Williams stated it was likely CAPETIAN would now be spelled.

MOLONGLE (G. Kliese) was slow into stride.

At approximately the 200 metres, ON THE WAY UP made contact with IDEALLY READY (F. Edwards).

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Jockey P. Cullen and Stable Foreperson V. McIver wished to view the photo for first placing. After doing so, both were satisfied as to the Judge’s placings and correct weight was declared.

Race 3: Bolt ‘n’ Fodder/ Footy’s Transport Open Handicap- 1200 metres
1st - WALTZ TO GLORY 2nd – MAIN GAME 3rd – HOT DICE 4th – HOW GOOD IS HE

Stewards sought an explanation into the performance of TSOLIAS. Jockey G. Kliese stated that, while the gelding began with the field, he was unable to maintain that position due to the speed of the race in the early stages and settled the gelding where it felt comfortable, in accordance with the instructions issued by Trainer J. Swift. In the middle stages, TSOLIAS raced at the rear of the field and wide on the track, as Jockey Kliese was of the opinion the track conditions were more suitable. Jockey Kliese further stated he placed the gelding under pressure from approximately the 800 metres, and TSOLIAS responded to his riding from approximately the 450 metres and finished the event off well. Stewards noted his explanations.
