Race 1: Bode Contracting - Maiden Plate Distance – 1000 Metres (4 Starters).
1st - KING MULTI 2nd - WESTERN RIOT 3rd – SHARED EQUITY 4th- KONABOS
LITTLE BISCUIT was scratched after final acceptances. KONABOS (L. Critoph) became extremely fractious after being placed in the starting stalls, thus delaying the start of the event. No reportable racing incidents in running.
Race 2: Cloncurry Smiths Transport – Class 6 Handicap Distance – 1000 Metres (6 Starters).
1st – SIMPLY WONDERFUL 2nd – LACRYMA BAY 3rd – TEDDY CHEVAL 4th- NIP OF SPIRIT
LACRYMA BAY (M. Dale) was obliged to race wide on the track for a majority of the event. NIP OF SPIRIT (T. Brummell) raced very wide on the track when rounding the turn into the home straight.
Race 3: Curley Cattle Transport - Class 4 Handicap Distance – 1200 Metres (8 Starters).
1st – FLEECED 2nd- REGAL KELLINA 3rd – PICNIC POINT 4th- CEDAR LODGE
The explanation by the connections of JESTERS LAD for the late declaration of M. Dale as the rider for that gelding was under the circumstances accepted by the stewards. PICNIC POINT (D. Jones), PETRO RANGER (L. Critoph) and BATTLE TIME (Apprentice S. Kavanagh) all lost considerable ground when the gates were released due to being slow away. PICNIC POINT (D. Jones) raced very wide on the track when rounding the turn into the home straight.
Race 4: Ernest Henry Mining – Xstrata Copper QTIS - Class 2 Handicap Distance – 1200 Metres (10 Starters).
1st – SCROLLS (NZ) 2nd – FLASH ARTHUR 3rd – SEXY SUZE 4th – TENNESSEE PRINCE
Both FLASH ARTHUR (M. Dale) and SEXY SUZE (A. Spradau) were a fraction slow into stride when a start was effected. RECEIVING STATION (R. Lock) was obliged to race wide on the track for a majority of the event. Approaching the 100 metre mark, REFORM STUDENT (T. Brummell) shifted ground inwards slightly under pressure and hampered the forward movement of PREFERRED GUEST (Ms D. Slack-Smith) at that point. The second placegetter FLASH ARTHUR was the only placegetter that was QTIS registered, and therefore qualified for the QTIS bonus.
Race 5: Cloncurry Shire Council – Class B Handicap Distance – 1400 Metres (8 Starters).
1st - HONORS ADVOCATE 2nd - KALANI BOY 3rd - VICTORY ROLL 4th- TOURNIQUET
CHARDONAYS EXPENSE (A. Spradau) was fractious in the barriers just prior to the start, which necessitated the assistance of an attendant. VICTORY ROLL (T. Brummell) had a tendency to over-race in the early and middle stages of the event, refusing the settle and race in a desired manner. ALQUO ROSE (R. Lock) raced very wide on the track when rounding the turn into the home straight.
Race 6: Craiglea Stud – Marrs Furniture Removals Fossil Trail Srries – Open Handicap Distance 1400 Mtres (9 Starters).
1st – PROUD MARK 2nd – OKAY BIRDY 3rd – LADY JAY 4th – SIGNOR PAGOLINO
SOMERSET ROAD was a late scratching at 3.05pm by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice after the horse injured itself in the tie-up stalls, sustaining a deep laceration to the forehead. No alteration to betting was required. LADY JAY (A. Spradau) delayed the start when it was reluctant to load. Shortly after the start, SCARLEX (NZ) (D. Jones) shifted outwards marginally and bumped with PROSPECTORS JEST (T. Brummell) resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced and shifting outwards and severely hampering the forward movement of PROUD MARK (L. Critoph), OKAY BIRDY (Ms D. Slack-Smith) and NOOPY (M. Dale). When rounding the home turn, SCARLEX (NZ) (D. Jones) rolled outwards under pressure and made heavy contact with PROSPECTORS JEST (T. Brummell) resulting in that horse being forced to ease and lose ground. WHIPSTICK (R. Lock) raced very wide on the track when rounding the turn into the home straight.
BOOKMAKERS: Three (3) bookmakers fielded at the meeting: (JD Comerford; KR Elliott & FV Pauza).
TOTAL STARTERS: 45
