Race 1: Cloncurry Shire Council – Class A Handicap. Distance – 1000 Metres - (5 Starters).
1st – HURRICANE HAL 2nd – TESKE 3rd – PICNIC CLOVER 4th – DEVILSINTHEDETAIL
DEVILSINTHEDETAIL (D. Ballard) who was fractious in the barriers prior to the start, stood flat footed when a start was affected, resulting in the horse losing considerable ground. TESKE (M. Cummings) was a fraction slow away. Leaving the 800 metre mark, DEVILSINTHEDETAIL (D. Ballard) raced wide on the track, resulting in CHARIOTS A BLAZING (Apprentice C. Gilby) being forced wider on the track. Following the event, Jockey M. Cummings (the rider of TESKE) reported that the mare changed stride approaching the 100 metre mark when it appeared to baulk at shadows on the track at that point.
Race 2: Cloncurry Veterinary Surgery – QTIS Class 5 Handicap. Distance – 1000 Metres - (8 Starters).
1st – LAGRANGE POINT 2nd – FLASH ARTHUR 3rd – BRASS CUTTER 4th – REGAL KELLINA
No action was taking against the connections of REGAL KELLINA in relation to the late notification of Jockey D. Price as the rider of that gelding as the Stewards had been notified (prior to final deadline of declaration of riders) that they were having difficulties in obtaining the services of a suitable lightweight rider. MILORA MAJOR (Apprentice C. Gilby), FLASH ARTHUR (Ms D. Slack-Smith) and REGAL KELLINA (D. Price) were all slow into stride when a start was affected. Approaching the 150 metre mark, Jockey D. Price (the rider of REGAL KELLINA) accidentally dropped his whip. Both MILORA MAJOR (Apprentice C. Gilby) and JESTERS LAD (K. Ballard) were obliged to race wide on the track (from their extreme outside barriers) for almost the entire event. It was noted that INNOVER (Apprentice J. Rudd) compounded over the final 200 metres of the event, after racing in the lead. Both the second placegetter (FLASH ARTHUR) and the third placegetter (BRASS CUTTER) were QTIS registered and therefore qualified for the QTIS bonuses.
Race 3: Butt Haulage – Class 1 Handicap. Distance – 1200 Metres - (10 Starters).
1st – HALO TO HEAVEN 2nd – EASE THE FREEZE 3rd – MY FYVEIGHT 4th – LORD BARON
Both POINT THE FINGER (Apprentice C. Gilby) and MR MASSAGE (T. Brummell) were a fraction slow away when a start was affected. Leaving the 800 metre mark, MR MASSAGE (T. Brummell) hung outwards and hampered RANGE ROVER (M. Cummings). MY FYVEIGHT (D. Ballard) was obliged to race wide on the track in the early and middle stages. EASE THE FREEZE (R. Lock) had a tendency to hang outwards under pressure over the final 200 metres of the event. MARCHINETTE (D. Jones) was obliged to race wide on the track from its extreme outside barrier for the entire event. On returning to scale, it was noted that MR MASSAGE had cast both hinds and the nearside front racing plates in running. Following the event, Jockey T. Brummell reported that his mount MR MASSAGE had hung outwards for almost the entire event.
Race 4: GDS Plumbing Services – Class 3 Plate. Distance – 1200 Metres - (5 Starters).
1st – LION NATION 2nd – TUSCAN MIRAGE 3rd – GUILT TRIP (NZ) 4th – GALITERI
No reportable racing incidents in running.
Race 5: Nest Glen Pty Ltd – Open Handicap. Distance – 1200 Metres - (6 Starters).
1st – MURDSA 2nd – PICNIC POINT 3rd – UMALORD 4th – MR KASHMAN
No reportable racing incidents in running. On returning to scale, Jockey A. Spradau (the rider of MR KASHMAN) reported that after travelling extremely well in the early and middle stages (although obliged to race three wide) his mount was immediately under pressure shortly after rounding the corner into the home straight and was a beaten horse shortly thereafter. Jockey Spradau was of the opinion that the horse would derive benefit from today’s start as it was resuming from a spell and having its first start in over five months. All comments were noted for future reference.
GENERAL: Jockey David Jones furnished to the Stewards a medical certificate prior to the meeting, verifying his fitness to resume riding after being forced to forego rides at the Boulia meeting (07/04/2007) due to illness.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
BOOKMAKERS: Two (2) bookmakers fielded at the meeting (JD Comerford & GN Saunders). (Local Hold $10,379 – Intrastate Hold: (Eagle Farm) - $3,430 – Interstate Hold $8,329 – Total Hold $22,138).
TOTAL STARTERS: 34
