Race 1: Joe Bakhash (Snr) Memorial – QTIS Class 1 Handicap. Distance – 1200 Metres - (10 Starters).

1st – RAIATEA 2nd – ZIPPER CLUB 3rd – EASE THE FREEZE 4th – CHARLIE BLUE

All weights for this event were raised 0.5kg at acceptance time. Due to an error in the race book, both Jockey R. Lock (the rider of MALTESE GIRL) and Jockey M. Tarrant (the rider of MISTER WAFFIE) were inadvertently omitted as the declared riders for those respective runners. CHARIOTS A BLAZING (Apprentice C. Gilby) was a fraction slow away. Both MALTESE GIRL (R. Lock) and RAIATEA (D. Jones) lost a considerable ground in the early and middle stages of the event, when unable to maintain sufficient pace to go the early speed of the event. LEGAL AID (Apprentice J. Rudd) was obliged to race wide on the track (from its extreme outside barrier) for almost the entire event. EASE THE FREEZE (A. Spradau) had a tendency to hang outwards, when rounding the turn into the home straight. Following the event, it was noted that the race winner RAIATEA (D. Jones) had traces of blood in its mouth (caused by the gelding being hit by a small rock in running). This was confirmed by the Club Veterinary Surgeon upon examination. The second placegetter ZIPPER CLUB was QTIS registered and therefore qualified for the QTIS bonus.

Race 2: Ex Presidents Memorial – Class 3 Plate. Distance – 1000 Metres - (10 Starters).

1st – SPECIAL CELESTE 2nd – ROUGAH 3rd – CENTGEORGE 4th – CHYNA SUCCESS

Due to an error in the race book, Apprentice J. Rudd was inadvertently omitted as the rider for BUCKO. CENTRALIZER (NZ) (A. Spradau) jumped awkwardly when the start was effected. MIND SQUARE (K. Ballard) jumped inwards at the start, and hampered the forward movement of both CENTGEORGE (Apprentice C. Gilby) and BUCKO (Apprentice J. Rudd) for a short distance. Approaching the 800 metre mark, CENTGEORGE (Apprentice C. Gilby) hung outwards off the track, and when corrected by its rider, shifted inwards abruptly and severely hampered BUCKO (Apprentice J. Rudd), who was obliged to ease and lose ground. LION ROYALE (Ms D. Slack-Smith) was also inconvenienced in this incident. TUSCAN MIRAGE (T. Brummell) was obliged to race wide on the track (from its extreme outside barrier) for almost the entire event. BUCKO (Apprentice J. Rudd) raced wide on the track, when rounding the turn into the home straight. Approaching the winning post, ROUGAH (D. Ballard) shifted outwards under pressure (despite the efforts of its rider) and in doing so, CHYNA SUCCESS (R. Lock) was obliged to ease momentarily. Passing the winning post, the third placegetter CENTGEORGE (Apprentice C. Gilby) shifted outwards abruptly off the track, resulting in its rider having difficulty in attempting to pull his mount up. The connections of CENTGEORGE advised the Stewards that they would endeavour to take corrective measures, so the horse races in a desired manner in future and also informed the Stewards that this was the gelding’s first start in a clock wise direction and also its first start on a dirt track surface. Stewards informed the connections of CENTGEORGE, that a repeat performance of today’s nature would see an embargo placed on the gelding. Following the running of this event, Stewards were notified of the oncoming inclement weather in the area, and therefore the remaining events on the programme were all brought forward approximately twenty (20) minutes. And an announcement to the public was made to this effect.

Race 3: Dowling Livestock & Property – Class 6 Handicap. Distance – 1000 Metres - (5 Starters).

1st – BRASS CUTTER 2nd – GRAND FILANTE (NZ) 3rd – FLASH ARTHUR 4th – JAGDEM

Due to an error in the race book, Jockey A. Spradau was inadvertently omitted as the rider for BRASS CUTTER. POSTCARD BANDIT (K. Ballard) jumped awkwardly when the gates were released. BRASS CUTTER (A. Spradau) had a tendency to hang outwards rounding the turn into the home straight. It was noted that both JAGDEM (T. Brummell) and POSTCARD BANDIT (K. Ballard) compounded over the final 400 metres of the event, finishing a considerable distance from the main portion of the field.

Race 4: Craiglea Stud – Raheen Stud – Minlacowie & Wingfield Droughtmaster Stud – Palmaday Stud – Marr’s Furniture Removals – Fossil Trial Series – Maiden Plate. Distance – 1000 Metres - (10 Starters).

1st – GOLDEN TIME 2nd – CEDE NULLIS 3rd – IRONHIDE 4th – ARDEKUHNI

PERSIAN ARROW was scratched after final acceptances. Due to an error in the race book, Jockey T. Brummell was inadvertently omitted as the rider for RANGE ROVER. Due to the chronic shortage of available riders and communication difficulties, no action was taken against the connections of BALLROOM BEAU for the late notification of R. Lock as the rider for that gelding. ALL ATTITUDE (D. Jones), FROST BITTEN (M. Tarrant) and BALLROOM BEAU (R. Lock) were all slow into stride when the gates were released. Leaving the 700 metre mark, ARDEKUHNI (A. Spradau) was obliged to ease on more than one occasion, when the gelding over raced and had to steadied off the heels of CEDE NULLIS (D. Ballard). Leaving the 150 metre mark, GOLDEN TIME (K. Ballard) had a tendency to hang inwards (under hard riding), which necessitated its rider having to stop riding and straighten his mount.

Race 5: George Swift Memorial – Class 3 Plate. Distance - 1400 Metres – (9 Starters).

1st – LURE THE LION 2nd – MY FYVEIGHT 3rd - ROYAL BULLION 4th – HURRICANE HAL

THE BREWSTER was scratched after final acceptances. After riding in the previous event, Jockey D. Jones (who was suffering dehydration) was examined by the Paramedic Officer in attendance, and advised to be relieved of his riding engagement in this event. Stewards therefore approved a late riding change, with Jockey K. Ballard being semaphored as the rider for ROYAL BULLION. HURRICANE HALL (Apprentice J. Rudd) jumped awkwardly when a start was effected. SEAFORTRESS (A. Spradau), GUILT TRIP (NZ) (R. Lock) and LURE THE LION (Apprentice C. Gilby) were all slow away when the gates were released. Leaving the 800 metre mark ROYAL BULLION (K. Ballard) was obliged to race in restricted room for a short distance, when LURE THE LION (Apprentice C. Gilby) shifted inwards momentarily at that point. It was noted that MOZZIES COZZEES (T. Brummell) compounded over the final 300 metres of the event, finishing a considerable distance from the main portion of the field.

Race 6: Brodie & Co. – Cattle Country Cup – Open Handicap. Distance – 1400 Metres - (8 Starters).

1st – TRICKY DICKY 2nd – CHOIMAR 3rd – REGULUS (NZ) 4th – ROADSPY

All weights for this event were raised 0.5kg at acceptance time. Due to an error in the race book, Jockey D. Ballard was inadvertently omitted as the rider for HEART OF LIGHT. After being re-examined by the Paramedic Officer in attendance, Jockey D. Jones was passed fit to fulfil his riding engagement in this event. Both REGULUS (NZ) (C. Gilby) and HEART OF LIGHT (D. Ballard) lost ground in the early and middle stages of the event, when unable to maintain sufficient pace to go the early speed of the event. Approaching the 800 metre mark, BYWORD (R, Lock) and UMALORD (T. Brummell) bumped on more than one occasion.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.

BOOKMAKERS: Three (3) bookmakers fielded at the meeting (JD Comerford; KR Elliott & GN Saunders). (Local Hold $18,635 – Intrastate Hold: (Doomben) - $10,786 – Interstate Hold $12,983 – Total Hold $42,404).

TOTAL STARTERS: 52
