Race 1: Landmark QTIS Maiden Plate- 1000 metres

Stewards accepted the explanation of Trainer F. Smith in relation to the late declaration of rider for VEYRON, however reminded him of his obligations in similar circumstances in the future.
EASTERN CHATEAU (T. Bannon) was difficult to load.
There was a delay to the start when DAUGO SHOVHOG (C. Beets) got down under the barrier gate and escaped riderless. Stewards declared the mare a late scratching at 1.37pm. Trainer J. Pointon was advised the mare must satisfactorily pass an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.
The starter reported to Stewards that the barrier gate had been damaged when RAGAZZA DELLA SERA became fractious in the barrier and temporary repairs were undertaken prior to the start.
STRICTLY DANCING (R. Hall) was slow to begin.
Stewards considered an application from Jockey T. Bannon for EASTERN CHATEAU to be declared a non-runner on the grounds of being denied a fair start.
After taking submissions from Jockey Bannon, Trainer D. Stafford, Mr. G. Fisher (starter) and after viewing the patrol films, Stewards declared EASTERN CHATEAU a non-runner when it was established the barrier failed to open at the time the start was effected and had impeded the filly. (ARR 134)

At approximately the 800 metres, SIR SOMETHING, which had improved to the inside of SUBTLE GLANCE, shifted out slightly, bumped SUBTLE GLANCE out onto the hindquarters of EAGLE JESTER (L. Dillon) which then shifted in slightly, and SUBTLE GLANCE was further hampered.
