Very soon after the start, SUPERTAX (K. Ballard), shifted outwards contacting with GOLDEN PORTRAIT (T. Brummell), which was taken out onto BIKRAM (S. Galvin), making solid contact with that runner.

Soon after, BIKRAM shifted inwards, tightening GOLDEN PORTRAIT between BIKRAM and SUPERTAX. Then near the 850 metres, SUPERTAX again shifted out causing GOLDEN PORTRAIT to again race in restricted room.
Stewards commenced an inquiry into these incidents early in the race. After taking evidence from Jockeys Ballard, Brummell and GALVIN, Steward’s observations and viewing the patrol footage Stewards accepted the versions of Jockeys K. Ballard and S. Galvin however, strongly advised both of those riders that more care is required and expected.

Before the declaration of Correct Weight, Jockey M. Cullen who rode KALMAN, which was placed second by the Judges, advised Stewards that he wished to view the photo finish photograph. On doing so, he was satisfied with the Judge’s decision and correct weight declared.
