Stewards: D. Hensler (Chairman), S. Abell, B. Gray, M. King and J. Steele (cadet).

General: Stewards today reconvened an adjourned inquiry from 14/08/99 involving trainer Mr. G. Strickland. Mr. Strickland pleaded guilty to a breach of L.R 12 in that on the afternoon of Friday July 23 he was attendant upon a horse at the Innisfail Turf Club when not wearing correct footwear. Mr. Strickland was fined the sum of $100.

Due to a bout of the flu, Guy Hall was unable to fulfil all his engagements and the following replacements were approved: R4 SOVEREIGN JET – P. Crich, R6 NADIR SHAH – L. Nelson, R7 GILD – M. Cullen. As L. Nelson was the only rider available in Race 6, stewards allowed him to ride 3kg overweight.

Race 4: SCHWEPPES / IGA X-PRESS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1250M (5 STARTERS)
Upon return to scale a protest was lodged by G. Philpot, rider of the third placegetter BRAVE OCTANE against the second placegetter UNRESTRAIN ridden by L. Davies alleging interference from the 550m. After hearing evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol film it was established that UNRESTRAIN commenced to hang out from the 550m and as a result came into contact with BRAVE OCTANE and forced that runner wider around the home turn and into the entrance of the straight. Stewards were of the opinion that this interference warranted a reversal of placing’s and the protest was upheld. The amended numbers were semaphored to read: 1st 5, 2nd 2, 3rd 1 and 4th 3.
