RACE ONE Maiden Handicap 1250 Metres 11 Starters
Trainer R.Kidner was charged with a breach of Lr42(2) in that he presented LOVE CHAMPAGNE to race without the correct gear, Mr Kidner was subsequently fined the sum of $50. As the gates opened KATYUSHKA (K.Brady) jumped inwards and made contact with TOUCHE TURTLE (R.Moses). At approximately the 900mtr mark TOUCHE TURTLE (R.Moses) stuck the running rail when having difficulty handling the going at that stage of the event. At the 600mtr mark HAYLEY’S REIGN commenced to hang out and ran off the track while savaging the runner to its outside, NO ILLUSION (M.Cullen). Trainer J.Caught was advised by the stewards that the mount must now successfully pass a minimum of two official barrier trials before being permitted to race again.
RACE TWO Class 2 Handicap 900 Metres 11 Starters
Jockey K.Brady was the replacement rider for RAFFO RULES when the declared rider, Jockey K.Rockett was excessively overweight. Jockey Rockett was subsequently found guilty to a breach of Ar120(b) and fined the sum of $50. As the gates opened RAFFO RULES (K.Brady) jumped outwards and continued to run out resulting in SIDE TRACK having to be restrained from its position in the field. When rounding the home turn METAL ACTION (App D.Crossland) shifted outwards and made contact with DANCING SLOT (A.Cowie). BROTHER (C.Whiteley) was unable to obtain a clear run when rounding the home turn. At approximately the 100mtr mark OL’ WINEMAKER (J.Walk) shifted inwards under pressure which resulted in DANCING SLOT (A.Cowie) being taken inwards, at this point LAKA’S RHYTHM (R.Ryan) shifted outwards, the result being that CENTURY SLOT had to be restrained. Jockey J.Walk was admonished for allowing his mount to shift in shortly after the finish post and cause DOIN’ TIME (J.Cairns) to clip its heels. Upon returning to the enclosure METAL ACTION had the presence of blood in both nostrils, the mount is now barred from racing for a period of three months as per the terms of Ar53A. Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and handling of GALLERY. Evidence was taken from the trainer Mr R.Chillemi and the rider Jockey I.Toward, also evidence from the Stewards and the Stewards patrol films were introduced into evidence. After taking evidence the Stewards adjourned the inquiry to 10.00am on Friday the 18th August 2000, at the Stewards room of the Townsville Turf Club.
RACE THREE Class 1 Handicap 1700 Metres 10 Starters
As the start was effected BELLESHANI (I.Toward) jumped inwards and made contact with MR. HOLLYFIELD (C.Whiteley) which in turn hampered the running of SHADOW PRINCE (App N.Homann). MR. HOLLYFIELD (C.Whiteley) slipped at the 1400mtr mark of the event. At the 600mtr mark BELLESHANI (I.Toward) shifted inwards and hampered the running of DANCE THE HEIGHTS (P.Cullen). KIALOA (R.Ryan) was disappointed for a clear run when rounding the home turn.
RACE FOUR Class 4 Handicap 1000 Metres 10 Starters
As the gates opened CITY SON (I.Toward) jumped outwards and caused SWEETENER (App N.Homann) to be eased. PORTRAIT MISS (C.Whiteley) returned to the enclosure with a laceration to the off-hind Leg.
RACE FIVE Class 3 Handicap 1400 Metres 10 Starters
Jockey K.Brady was the replacement rider for CAPTAIN ROBINSON when the declared rider, Jockey P.Crich was unable to make the allotted weight. At the 800mtr mark REFLECTED (J.Walk) brushed the running rail. At the 600mtr mark KENFLOW (A.Robinson) and MARTIAL AIR (R.Ryan) made contact.
RACE SIX Open Handicap 1000 Metres 11 Starters
PRINCE JACOB (App D.Crossland) hung inwards for the first 100mtrs of the event. Upon returning to the enclosure AUSSIE PROSPECTOR had the presence of blood in both nostrils, the mount is now barred from racing for a period of three months as per the terms of Ar53A. Jockey M.Cullen the rider of TELLING BLOW was found guilty to a charge of careless riding in that at approximately the 550mtr mark he permitted his mount to shift inwards when not sufficiently clear of ROMBERG (C.Whiteley), resulting in ROMBERG having to be checked. Jockey Cullen’s license to ride in races was suspended from midnight the 12th August 2000 up to and including the 25th August 2000 being a period covered by three race meetings. At the 400mtr mark ROMBERG (C.Whiteley) was steadied when BOLD REGENT (R.Ryan) shifted outwards marginally after being bumped by MAGGEE’S DANCER (J.Cairns) to its inside.
RACE SEVEN Open Handicap 1400 Metres 13 Starters
TIMELEY ADVICE was a late scratching at 8.45am by order of the Stewards, when the trainer Mr W.Peebles advised that the horse was sore in the near-fore leg. Mr Peebles was advised that the Stewards require a veterinary certificate to verify the soreness of the horse, also a further veterinary clearance before the horse is permitted to race again. Stewards opened an inquiry into an incident which occurred at the 900mtr mark of the event when SMOKEY TOUCH (K.Rockett) was checked. After taking evidence from the riders involved and on viewing the patrol films of the incident, it was the Stewards opinion that no one rider could be held responsible for the incident and no further action was taken but to advise both Jockey M.Cullen (SAINTLY SPY) and Jockey J.Walk (AVION WAY) to exercise more care in the future. Jockey D.Dean the rider of BRILLIANT SPY reported that he had broken his whip at approximately the 300mtr mark of the event.
RACE EIGHT Class 6 Handicap 1500 Metres 11 Starters
As the gates opened OH ROMEO (K.Brady) jumped outwards and made contact with LE FLAMBEUR (G.Kliese). At approximately the 800mtr mark of the event GIFTED GURU (I.Toward) raced up onto the heels of LE FLAMBEUR (G.Kliese) and shifted outwards which resulted in both THE DANCIN’ MAN (J.Walk) and INNUENDO (J.Cairns) being taken wide on the track. Jockey G.Cullen was advised to exercise more care in the future after allowing his mount VISLANDA to shift outwards at the 200mtr mark of the event and hamper the running of McCAVITY (App D.Crossland).
