CAIRNS JOCKEY CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SATURDAY 22/12/01

STEWARDS PANEL: W.A.L. Abel (Chairman), B Gray, A Green

WEATHER – Fine TRACK – Good RAIL –

RACE 1: - Santa’s Maiden Plate – 1200 metres

PRINCESS BLETCHA (Ms M Seagren) jumped in the air when the gates opened and lost ground. Thereafter PRINCESS BLETCHA raced fiercely until the 600 metre position. NATIVENO (D Crossland) attempted to hang out at the 1000 metre position and after negotiating the home turn, shifted in. CRUISER SHARKEY (e Kowald) drifted out under pressure at the 100 metre position

RACE 2: - The Mistletoe Class 4 Handicap – 1000 metres

The announcement of correct weight was delayed to allow the judges to produce printed evidence to satisfy Jockey G Philpot that his mount COOYONG had run fourth. Due to an electronic technical problem, this was not possible. At the 1000 metre position, COOYONG (G Philpot) shifted in onto RATZINGER (S Morris).

RACE 3: - The Jingle Bells Class 2 Handicap – 1400 metres.

KIALOA (R Ryan) jumped out as the gates opened making contact with AQUILO. App Ms L Buckingham informed the Stewards that AQUILO did not respond when asked for an effort, particularly at the start and in the closing stages of the race. Jockey R Ryan, rider of KIALOA was restricted in his efforts in the final stages of the race when the saddle slipped. The gelding returned to scale with its tongue over the bit.

RACE 4: - Christmas Class 6 Plate – 950 metres.

At the 700 metre position, I Toward, (ACCORDANCE) was forced to restrain his mount when COPRAKHAN (D Crossland) shifted in when taking up a forward position. App D Crossland was reprimanded by the stewards for allowing his horse to move in.

RACE 5: - Rudolph’s Open Handicap – 1200 metres.

RED SAVAGE (G Porter) was marginally slow to leave the Barriers and raced wide for the majority of the race.

RACE 6: - Happy New Year Class 1 Handicap – 950 metres

Jockey R Ryan was indisposed and was replaced as rider of HI HO SILVER by E Kowald. ARRISTO was extremely fractious in the starting stalls dislodging Rider C Symons. ARRISTO injured itself and was withdrawn by the Stewards acting on Veterinary advice. All winning bets were ordered to be deducted 20c in $ on the face value of the ticket on both Win and Place Bets. ARRISTA will be required to trial to the Stewards satisfaction before racing again. GOLDNE ROCKET (Ms D Andrews) hung out for the last 300 metres and its rider was restricted in her efforts to ride out the mare.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
