CAIRNS JOCKEY CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SATURDAY 05/01/02

WEATHER – Fine TRACK – Good RAIL –
RACE 1: - Happy New Year Class 2 Handicap – 1200 metres
Jockey K Rockett informed the stewards at 09:50 that he was indisposed and would be unable to fulfil his engagement to ride MAGIC FALL. He was replaced by F Edwards. K Rockett was instructed to provide medical evidence of his indisposition. At the 1000 metre position, MAGIC COMMAND (D Canny) was restrained when GAME DEFECTS shifted in to take a rails position. Jockey J Lewis was reprimanded by the stewards for allowing GAME DEFECTS to move in. At the 200m GAME DEFECTS (J Lewis) checked severely to avoid the heels of COUNT TELESTO (S. Morris), when forced in by MAGIC COMMAND. D Canny, rider of MAGIC COMMAND, was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under the terms of A. R. 137(a). In that he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of GAME DEFECTS causing that horse to move in and check severely. Jockey D Canny was suspended from riding in races up to and including 19/01/02. LOYALIST returned to scale bleeding from a laceration to the near stifle area, sustained when jumping awkwardly from the starting stalls.
RACE 2: - Good Luck 2002 Class 3 Handicap – 950 metres
At the 800 metre position SPRING REGENT was restrained to avoid the heels of BALLYKAY (K Mahoney).
RACE 3: - Cairns Party Hire Class 1 Handicap –950 metres
GOLDEN ROCKET (Ms D Andrews) jumped out when the gates opened. MACEDON AFFAIRS (C Lee) was slow to begin and then raced fiercely and at the 400 metre position, made contact with NEW YORK ROCKET (I Toward).
RACE 4: - Carlton Draught Maiden Plate Handicap – 950 metres
PRINCE AVALANCHE (I Toward) was slow to leave the starting stalls and jumped in. LIBBA (K Mahoney) was slow in to galloping action.
RACE 5: Adams Motor’s Open Handicap – 950 metres
COOL AND REGAL (R Ryan) was fractions in the starting stalls. MANNDO (D Crossland) jumped outwards when the gates opened. PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE (I Toward) jumping outwardly leaving the barrier. EXPORTING (J Lewis) was slow into galloping action.
Analytical specimens were taken from all winners.
