CAIRNS JOCKEY CLUB STEWARDS REPORT 6/07/02

STEWARDS PANEL: R Doyle (Chairman), K Smith, H Warren

WEATHER – Fine TRACK – Good RAIL – True

RACE 1: AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY RACING CONFERENCE CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1500M

After leaving the 900m MILLIEMAY was inclined to over race and got her head in the air.

RACE 2: PARTY IN THE PARK MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

Acting on a report from trainer P Doman who indicated that PASSION KILA had been cast in its box that morning and had sustained bruising and swelling to her near fetlock joint, the filly was examined upon arrival at the course by club veterinary surgeon and was withdrawn at 12.40 p.m. acting on vet’s advise. Trainer P Doman was advised that PASSION KILA would require a vet certificate prior to re-nominating.

At the start PHANTON LYRIC jumped in crowding TELLY’S GANG.

GREY TWIST tended to over race at the 500m.

RACE 3: JULY SUPER QRIS ADDED STAGES TWO-YEAR-OLD CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1000M

On return to scale a protest was lodged by K Rockett, the rider of 4th placegetter FRISKY SPRINGS, against GREYTIME being declared 2nd alleging interference at the 100m. It was established leaving the 100m that GREYTIME shifted in marginally, hampering FRISKY SPRINGS. However, having regard to the margin between the two horses at the finish, stewards dismissed the protest and ordered that the placings stand.

At an inquiry into the reason for SIT HERE DEAR being checked at the 100m evidence was taken from J Babarovich (SIT HERE DEAR), K Rockett (FRISKY SPRINGS) and D Dean (GREYTIME). It was established that near the 100m SIT HERE DEAR was checked when FRISKY SPRINGS shifted in and away from GREYTIME, which shifted in marginally. After considering all the evidence stewards severely reprimanded K Rockett (FRISKY SPRINGS) and D Dean (GREYTIME) for allowing their mounts to shift ground when not sufficiently clear. They were advised that whilst the incident had resulted from a combination of both riders permitting their mounts to shift in, serious consideration had been given to charging both riders with careless riding.

STARFORME was slow in to stride.

RACE 4: PACIFIC TOYOTA CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1250M

ALPHARANTO was inclined to lay in over concluding stages of race.

Over the concluding stages the saddle on KAHAYLA commenced to shift, placing its rider I Toward, at a disadvantage. As a consequence KAHAYLA was eased out of the race.

RACE 5: CAIRNS CUP CARIVAL AUGUST 9 & 10 OPEN H'CAP – 1000M

TELLING BLOW was slow in to stride.

NEWSWORTHY jumped out at the start crowding TELLING BLOW.

RACE 6: THE REEF CASINO CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1250M

After leaving the 900m JUST ON DUSK was inclined to lay out the entire race

LOYALIST shifted out over concluding stages of race.
