CAIRNS JOCKEY CLUB STEWARDS REPORT 23/11/02
STEWARDS PANEL: W A L Abell (Chairman), G Govan, K Smith
WEATHER – FINE TRACK – GOOD RAIL – TRUE
RACE 1: QTIS TWO YEAR OLD MAIDEN H'CAP – 1000M
The start of this race was delayed 12 mins due to the late arrival of the ambulance.
STRICTLY FAST jumped in the air when the gates opened and raced greenly throughout the running of the race.
KID COLAC moved around in the straight and shied away from KNOCKBACK in the final stages of the race.
RACE 2: THE SIGN POST CLASS 3 PLATE – 1000M
At the 600m position ARRISTA eased off the heels if REGULATE after negotiating the home turn.
KAHAYLA shifted out on to FLIPPER VARGEN at approximately the 200m position.
KAHAYLA moved in making contact with REGULATE forcing that horse on to PASSION KILA causing both horses to check and lose ground. Jockey I Toward rider of KAHAYLA was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under the terms of AR 137(a) in that he allowed his horse to move in when insufficiently clear of REGULATE causing that horse to make contact with PASSION KILA resulting in PASSION KILA and REGULATE checking and losing ground. Jockey I Toward was suspended from riding in races for a period commencing midnight 28/11/02 up to and including 7/12/02.
FLIPPER VARGEN drifted in during the latter stages of the race.
RACE 3: QTIS THREE YEAR OLD CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1250M
VEELA was fractious in the starting stalls and missed the start.
PILOT POINT and BIBOOHRA were slow to laeve the barriers.
SHE’S A DANCER jumped out when the gates opened on to EYE GEE AYE.
At the 1000m position BIBOOHRA which was racing erratically moved on to GOLD BANDIT.
PINK KIMONA hung out slightly inconveniencing VEELA.
The saddle slipped on EYE GEE AYE at the 300m position and rider D Canny was unable to ride the gelding out.
Jockey D Canny became indisposed after the finish of this race and after examination by paramedic staff was relieved of riding duties for the remainder of the day.
RACE 4: WILLMOT SMASH REPAIRS CLASS 6 PLATE – 1400M
After easing momentarily on the home turn to avoid the heels of CASTELOZOS, RUB THE BUDA raced ungenerously. Jockey K Brady informed the stewards that when the gelding did not respond to normal pressure he held the opinion that extreme measures would have no effect. Trainer G Purdy later reported that RUB THE BUDA appeared normal when returned to stable. These comments were noted by the stewards.
RACE 5: CAIRNS 24 HOUR MEDICAL CENTRE H'CAP – 1300M
S Morris replaced D Canny as rider of WILLS SECRET.
After travelling a short distance CINNAMON COVE which was over racing moved in inconveniencing WILLS SECRET. CINNAMON COVE continued moving in causing GALLERY to be tightened for room. In issuing App G Porter with a severe reprimand for allowing CINNAMON COVE to move ground, the stewards took in to consideration the fact that his mount was over racing and hanging in at that stage in the race.
RACE 6: FARMLAND DROUGHT APPEAL MAIDEN H'CAP – 1250M
E Kowald replaced D Canny as rider of SEMI PROMISE.
SEFOKEELA was difficult to place in to the starting stalls and delayed the start. Mr C McLean trainer of SEFOKEELA was informed that a repetition of such barrier behaviour could lead to an imposition being placed on the mare.
SEMI PROMISE eased at the 550m position to avoid the heels of ROUCH SAWN.
At the 300m position BAZZA’S TIME moved in sharply, MAGIC FALL and GIVE A TOAST which were racing on the inside of BAZZA’S TIME also moved in.
App G Porter, rider of PLACID TWIST, lost his whip in the straight.
MISS ROXANNE raced unkindly and rider (L Nelson) informed the stewards that the filly which was having her second race start appeared field shy and refused to gallop freely in company of other horses.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
