CAIRNS JOCKEY CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SATURDAY 20/12/03

STEWARDS PANEL: V B GRAY (Chairman), G GOVAN

WEATHER – FINE TRACK:-GOOD RAIL –TRUE


RACE 1: MAIDEN PLATE – 1250 Metres –

PLAYBOY CITY jumped in onto STRUCTURE when the starting stalls opened. SPACE REQUEST jumped in onto SPIRITED DANCER as the starting gates opened. PRINCE HAVARTI jumped out at the start. TROPIC TWIST was slow into galloping action and raced very wide around the 1000 metre turn. MISS LOPEZ ridden by I Toward moved out at the 350 metre mark and took the running of SPACE REQUEST. At a subsequent Inquiry into the incident, Jockey I Toward was suspended under AR 137 for two (2) meetings. Jockey I Toward also received a reprimand for dropping his hands and not riding his mount right to the line.

RACE 2: CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1400 Metres

PHORCYS sweated up very badly in the mounting yard. SNAADEE WARRIOR had his head turned in the starting stalls when they opened and consequently was slow into stride. STIFF DRINK knuckled at the 1000 metres when he moved out marginally and clipped the heels of SNAADEE WARRIOR. FINAL COUNTY was travelling at the rear of the field at the 450 metre mark then raced very wide around the home corner before finishing very strongly to take 2nd place. The winner ALPHARANTO proved difficult to obtain a blood sample from.

RACE 3: CLASS B HANDICAP – 1000 Metres

BLUE MISTIQUE was hard to load. There was a general tightening at the 350 metre mark when BALLY BRIANNA moved in onto TIDEMARK who in turn moved in onto HULA RULES.

RACE 4: CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1000 Metres

The riders of both WISE UP and STRICTLY BLUE reported that their mounts had both slipped at the start and WISE UP appeared sore and underwent a Veterinary Examination.

RACE 5: OPEN HANDICAP – 1000 Metres

No incidents in running.


ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
