Race 1:Amateurs Golden Maiden Plate – 1250 metres
1st – JOBURG ANGEL 2nd – HYPATICA 3rd – HELLO BOSS 4th – LIGHTNING McQUEEN
Trainer Mr W. Swinton was fined $100 under L.R. 70(1) for failing to declare Apprentice P. Edwards as the rider for WHATAWOW by the prescribed time.
Jockey J. Stopps instead of Jockey G. Kliese was inadvertently shown in the Race Book as the rider of SIR RASH.
The start of the race was delayed when WHATAWOW (Apprentice P. Edwards) proved difficult to load.
Near the 900 metres LIGHTNING McQUEEN (I. Toward) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of WHATAWOW (Apprentice P. Edwards), which shifted in and then rounding the turn at the 900 metres hung out.
Approaching the 850 metres SHEDIR (J. Felix) shifted in and brushed the running rail.
At about the 500 metres SHEDIR (J. Felix) improved up onto the heels of HELLO BOSS (P. Cullen) and had to be steadied.
Near the 150 metres WHY WAIT (C. Whiteley), which was yielding ground, was tightened for room when racing to the inside of WARRIOR SPIRIT (D. Crossland), which was taken in by SHEDIR (J Felix). A short distance later SHEDIR had to be steadied off the heels of LIGHTNING McQUEEN (I. Toward), which shifted in under pressure.
Race 2: ABN - AMRO Morgans Class 1 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st – GREAT PORTENT 2nd – SNAPPY CAT 3rd – COSTA ROMOLO 4th – THE CAT’S BACK
On jumping BONNIE LEADER (P. Cullen) was tightened for room between RECKON I’M READY (F. Edwards) and THE CAT’S BACK (D. Crossland), which shifted out.
Shortly after the start COSTA ROMOLO (J. Bowditch) was tightened for room between TAR (N. Day) and SHE’S SUPREME (I. Toward), both of which shifted ground.
In the early stages BONNIE LEADER (P. Cullen) over-raced.
For the majority of the event AMEN CORNER (N. Thomas) raced wide.
Near the 600 metres RECKON I’M READY and BONNIE LEADER (P. Cullen) bumped.
Over the final 200 metres GREAT PORTENT (J. Felix) was inclined to shift out under pressure.
Race 3: Pitchfork Wines Amateurs Bracelet Class 3 Handicap – 1250 metres
1st – PARIS BOY 2nd – KANETOSHI KING 3rd – RONTGEN 4th – SHOCKIE
At the start LAKEFUL (I. Toward) was crowded for room between ON A PRAYER (Apprentice P. Edwards), which shifted out, and SHOCKIE (K. Rockett), which shifted in.
Near the 1100m BRIAN (G. Cullen) had to be steadied off the heels of HELLBOUND LUJAIN (G. Kliese), which shifted in.
For the majority of the event KANETOSHI KING (D. Crossland) was caught wide.
At about the 900 metres ON A PRAYER (Apprentice P. Edwards) was tightened for room when racing to the inside of UPTOWN TYCOON (P. Cullen).
Approaching the 500 metres PARIS BOY (D. Missen) improved up onto the heels of RONTGEN (J. Bowditch) and had to be steadied.
Over the final 200 metres FIERY DIAMOND (J. Felix) had difficulty obtaining clear running.
Leaving the 200 metres CAFFE DI CLANG (S. Cormack) was momentarily tightened for room between UPTOWN TYCOON (P. Cullen) and PARIS BOY (D. Missen), which shifted out to improve.
Race 4: The Cairns Post Class 6 Handicap- 960 metres
1st – MINI VIEW 2nd – FIRST EDITION 3rd – LUCIPALITY 4th – CRYSTAL MOSS
Trainer Mr J. Manzelmann was fined $50 under A.R. 59A for failing to produce the Document of Description for MINI VIEW as required.
Trainer Mr K. Potamianakis was fined $100 under L.R.70(1) for failing to declare F. Edwards as the rider of LUCIPALITY by the prescribed time.
MIND THE MONEY (S. Kaya) was slow to get into stride.
Shortly after the start CRYSTAL MOSS (C. Whiteley) and FIRST EDITION (D. Crossland) came together.
Rounding the turn at the 400 metres TEEJAY HUNTER (Apprentice L. Dittman) hung out.
Approaching the 300 metres CARRY ON DOCTOR (S. Cormack) shifted out to improve and bumped CRYSTAL MOSS (C. Whiteley).
Over the final 100 metres MINI VIEW (N. Day) shifted out under pressure.
Race 5: Hansen Yuncken Classic Open Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – GUNNERS BARRACKS 2nd – OUT TO LUNCH 3rd – INTRAMUROS 4th – FLYING WOODPECKER
When Jockey D. Green was indisposed Jockey C. Whiteley was substituted as the rider of DIAGRAM.
When Jockey P. Cullen was to be overweight, Jockey G. Cullen was substituted as the rider of OVERSEAS. Jockey P. Cullen was fined $100 under A.R. 120(b).
Trainer Mr B. McLachlan was fined $100 under A.R. 140A for presenting INTRAMUROS (S. Cormack) in the enclosure without winkers.
The start was delayed when EXPECTING (J. Bowditch) proved difficult to load into the barriers.
GUNNERS BARRACKS (D. Crossland) and OVERSEAS (G. Cullen) bumped on jumping.
CARRY ON ACE (I. Toward) was slow to get into stride.
Approaching the finishing line CARRY ON ACE (I. Toward) and OVERSEAS (G. Cullen) bumped.
Race 6: Carlton Draught Amateur Cup – 2100 metres
1st – SOOTH SAYER 2nd – STAGE SHAKER 3rd – PURE SILENCE 4th – CAP RIVIERA 5th - OUR MORNING GLORY
Stewards questioned trainer Mr D. Hansen regarding his late declaration of Jockey N. Tsaikos as the rider of LINK HOGTHROB. After taking evidence from Mr Hansen stewards were of the opinion that there were mitigating circumstances and accordingly imposed no penalty.
IN REHEARSAL (S. Cormack) was slow to begin.
On jumping CROSS BAR (M. McDuff) and HAVANA WIND (S. Kaya) came together.
Shortly after the start OUR MORNING GLORY (I. Toward) was tightened for room when racing between LINK HOGTHROB (S. Tsaikos), which shifted in, and EASY PLAN (G. Lemos) which was taken in by TARIKI (J. Bowditch).
Leaving the winning post on the first occasion EASY PLAN (G. Lemos), which was racing wide, blundered, almost dislodging its rider. EASY PLAN was then obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
Approaching the 400 metres HAVANA WIND (S. Kaya), which was under pressure and yielding ground, was tightened for room by CROSS BAR (M. McDuff), which shifted in.
Near the 300 metres TARIKI (J. Bowditch) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CAP RIVIERA (C. Whiteley), which shifted out to improve.
Race 7: 50th Cairns Amateurs Carnival Class 2 Handicap – 960 metres
1st – BRER FOX 2nd – DRAGONISI 3rd – MENORAH 4th LESNER
OUR RARE GEM (I. Toward) began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start BERATE (M. McDuff) was checked when tightened for room between MENORAH (G. Cullen), which was taken in by BRER FOX (D.Crossland), and GOYOUSOANDSO (Apprentice L. Dittman) and CULLENARY (D. Missen), both of which were taken out by DRAGONISI (N. Day).
In the middle stages DRAGONISI (N. Day) over-raced.
Near the 400 metres DIAGRAM (C. Whiteley) was crowded for room by DRAGONISI (N. Day), which shifted in under pressure.
