SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

Townsville Turf Club, 3rd August 2010:

Race 1: Allan Baxter Tribute Maiden Handicap – 1000 metres

Trainer J. O’Dea advised that LIGHT MOON had pulled up well following the event and that he was at a loss to explain the mare’s disappointing performance. Mr O’Dea further advised that he was having blood tests carried out on LIGHT MOON and he undertook to advise stewards should anything come to light from the results of the blood tests.

Race 5: Café Bambini Class 3 Handicap – 1630 metres

When questioned as to the change of tactics adopted on TAN TAT DANCER, Trainer D. Hansen advised that it was his intention to have the gelding racing in a forward position. Mr Hansen added that it was always his intention, since taking over the training of TAN TAT DANCER, that the gelding would race in a forward position, as it had done when racing in Victoria. However, TAN TAT DANCER had been unable to muster the necessary speed to take up a forward position at its most recent starts. Mr Hansen advised stewards that his intention was to have the horse race in a forward position in its future starts. He added that upon returning to scale TAN TAT DANCER was showing signs of respiratory distress, which in his opinion may have explained why the gelding failed to finish off the race as expected.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on FINAL ROAR, trainer Mr K. Entriken explained that at the gelding’s previous starts he had been advised by the jockeys that the gelding was inclined to race keenly when ridden towards the rear of the field, therefore he intended to have the gelding ridden more forward after drawing the No. 1 barrier. The stewards were notified of the change of tactics, and an announcement was made to such effect prior to the race. Mr Entriken noted that FINAL ROAR was a little slow to begin and as such was unable to take up a forward position as was his intention. He further noted that despite the slow start and racing at the rear of the field, FINAL ROAR was able to finish the race off well and as such he would revert to the normal racing pattern of having the gelding ridden in the second half of the field.

LATE DECLARATION OF RIDERS:

Stewards accepted the explanations tendered by trainer Mr D. Hansen for the late declaration of Jockey D. Missen as the rider of SLEEK MACHINE (Race 4) and INTANGIBLE ASSET (Race 5) and by trainer Mr T. Butts for the late declaration of D. Missen as the rider of RAMSAY (Race 1).
Race 1: Cairns Steel Maiden Plate - 1250 metres
1st – MEGAROYALE 2nd – RAMSAY 3rd – TALLGRASS 4th - FAIRY

At the start RAMSAY (D. Missen) shifted in and made contact with SOBO (G. Kliese).

Jockey D. Green was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 400 metres he permitted COCOA COONATUS to shift out when insufficiently clear of I AM BUT A FOOL (F. Edwards), which was severely checked and lost its rightful running when tightened for room between MISS RIO (P. Cullen) and COCOA CONATUS. JESSE GIRL (S. Kaya) and TALLGRASS (R. Thompson), which were following, were inconvenienced as a consequence. Jockey Green was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Sunday, 15th August 2010, up to and including Tuesday, 24th August 2010 (7 meetings).

MONSOON MIST (S. Morris), MISS RIO (P. Cullen) and MEGAROYALE (M. Elliott) raced wide for the majority of the event.

ZINGALO (K. Stone) raced greenly throughout.

When asked about the tactics adopted on POOH BEAR, Jockey I. Toward explained that he had been instructed to jump the horse out and allow it to settle where it was comfortable. He said that POOH BEAR began only fairly and got back further than had been intended. Jockey Toward added that the gelding found the line well and in his opinion will be better suited in races over a longer distance than today’s event. The comments were noted.

Jockey S. Kaya, the rider of JESSE GIRL, was asked to explain the tactics adopted on the horse, particularly rounding the home turn and at the entrance to the straight. He said that in the early part of the straight he was reluctant to attempt a run between MONSOON MIST (S. Morris), which had a tendency to shift out, and MISS RIO (P. Cullen), which was taken out by SOBO (G. Kliese), because at its most recent start JESSE GIRL had shown an aversion to racing inside other horses, therefore he elected to shift to the outside of the heels of MONSOON MIST.

Jockey G. Kliese was reprimanded under A.R. 137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip as the rider of SOBO on more than 5 occasions, on consecutive occasions, prior to the 100 metres.

Race 2: Babinda Electrics Class 5 Handicap – 960 metres
1st - DISREPUTE 2nd – SUNNY WILL 3rd - BEURRE 4th – WESTERN CHAT

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey F. Edwards, the rider of LANGFURY which finished fifth, to view the official photo finish for fourth place, following which correct weight was declared.

At the start SUNNY WILL (J. Felix) was tightened for room between DISREPUTE (I. Toward) and SCARE TACTIC (D. Crossland), both of which shifted ground.

Near the 700 metres BEURRE (S. Kaya), which was inclined to over-race, had to be steadied from heels and then laid out for a short distance thereafter.

At about the 150 metres SCARE TACTIC (D. Crossland) and DISREPUTE (I. Toward) bumped.

WESTERN CHAT (R. Thompson) raced wide throughout.

Jockey D. Crossland, the rider of SCARE TACTIC which performed below expectations, informed stewards that it was now the intention of connections to send the gelding for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of SCARE TACTIC did not reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3: FGF Bitumen Maiden Plate – 960 metres
1st - MISS EMMYLOU 2nd – POWERFUL TOUCH 3rd - FULL MOON MAGIC 4th – DANCE DUCEY DANCE

Trainer B. Condon was fined $200 under A.R. 140B for presenting FULL MOON MAGIC to race with other than its approved gear.

The start was delayed when CHARMER (I. Toward) proved difficult to load into the barriers. Trainer Mr T. Rowe was advised that a warning had been placed on the colt’s barrier manners.

NORTHERN SECRETS (M. Atkinson) and MUSICAL MOMENTS (M. Elliott) were slow to begin.

In the middle stages DANCE DUCEY DANCE (J. Murphy) over-raced.

Rounding the home turn NORTHERN SECRETS (M. Atkinson) hung out.

COLUMBIA QUEEN (P. Cullen) raced wide throughout.

When asked about his riding of FULL MOON MAGIC, in particular in the straight, Jockey J. Felix stated that the mare raced tractably in the early and middle stages. He said that upon straightening he rode FULL MOON MAGIC out hands and heels. He added that when he struck FULL MOON MAGIC with the whip on two occasions near the 150 metres the mare ducked out abruptly and he was obliged to stop riding and straighten. Trainer B. Condon was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing manners.

Jockey G. Kliese advised stewards that the only explanation he could offer for the disappointing performance of DIAMOND SEEKER, which failed to respond to his riding in the straight, was that the mare may have been shin sore. A post-race veterinary examination of DIAMOND SEEKER revealed that the horse appeared to be sore on palpation of the lumbar area. Trainer Ms P. Addona was advised that she must furnish a veterinary clearance prior to DIAMOND SEEKER being permitted to race again.

Trainer Mr R. Fleming was questioned about the performance of MUSICAL MOMENTS (M. Elliott). He that the horse raced below expectations and informed stewards that he intended to experiment with the training of the filly. Nevertheless stewards advised Mr Fleming that MUSICAL MOMENTS was barred from competing at TAB events until it proves that it caqn be more competitive.

In the straight CONFIDENT WOMAN (F. Edwards) was inclined to shift out under pressure and on a number of occasions made contact with NORTHERN APACHE (R. Thompson).

SNAPPY CAT (J. Murphy) raced wide throughout.

Race 6 – Cazalys Class 6 Plate – 1250 metres
1st – CHEVAL ARGENTE 2nd – TEDDY BARE 3rd – HUSS 4th – GYPSY MIST

The start was delayed when WHISKY SISTER (J. Felix) proved difficult to load into the barriers. Trainer B. Condon was advised that a warning has been placed on the horse’s barrier manners.

RAIN GAME (P. Cullen) was slow to begin.

Near the 900 metres HUSS (F. Edwards), was forced to race in restricted room to the inside of LAKEFUL (I. Toward), which was taken in by WHISKY SISTER (J. Felix), which was taken in by GENERAL SPARK (S. Morris).

Approaching the 200 metres GENERAL SPARK (S. Morris) had to be steadied when TEDDY BARE (D. Missen) shifted in. Jockey D. Missen was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
